Because AR-15s are cheaper to buy than most rifles. They are also very reliable.
And you can easily part-customize them (though not to make them more deadly; just more tricked out). Like adding flashlights, scopes, red dot sites, etc. But none of that has really any effect on a mass shooting situation.

is
I have a good piece of land. If someone was 150 feet from by backdoor on my land and I needed to use extreme action against them a handgun or shotgun is mostly useless. So, there is that. Or, are you proposing I should let them get within range first?
I have no relation to this since I am not still living a wilderness lifestyle.

And neither is a vast majority of this country.

You don't think the FBI does criminal investigations daily that include the pulling of mental medical files daily? You are fooling yourself if you truly believe that.

Disturbing that you think this is the case.

And even if you believe this, you really trust this government to do the best with that data?

That is about as anti-freedom as you can get.

There are very real, very serious uses in home defense for an AR that booze is dismissing offhand.

I understand his point of “make them harder to get at least,” but at the end of the day I don’t think that would make much of a difference, or, conversely, you’d have to be over-correcting and creating a process so onerous that it denies way too many people their due process rights to weed out the few bad guys.

Im not dismissing out of hand such a solution, but it is easy to say “just make them harder to get,” but it’s quite difficult to come up with what such a law will look like without infringing on people’s constitutional rights.

Home defense can be accomplished by handguns and shotguns as far as I am concerned. But I am sure one you yahoos will try to educate me on that.

Sorry, but the fear of gangs of (whispers probably ethnic) people coming and robbing and killing me and my family does not dominate my consciousness. So now, I don't see the need for anyone to have a high powered firearm capable of mowing down people at a festival if I suddenly decided I wanted to do that.

And you know what, if my lack of concern means other psychos can just prey on me, you know what, that is natural fucking selection.

Somehow, I have been able to survive on this planet in my lifetime without a firearm in my home.

Yea ffs the numerology wacko I just posted in the Trump thread was a former FBI AD, they in no way should be evaluating anyones mental health when their own is in question.

So the FBI is crazy? This is getting better by the minute.

I only have 1 1/2 acres of land. You think that is living in a wilderness lifestyle? Brother, back up a bit and slow down. You're starting to sound silly.

You seriously don't think the FBI has access to medical records? HIPAA isn't designed nor intended for law enforcement.

In your case that may be true, but fuck my wilderness ass house, right?

Actually it makes you sound even more ridiculous.

You got yer acre of land and a half of land to defend.

I am sorry, I just don't get it. My plot is just under an acre. And most of it extends back onto an unused end of the subdivision.

Should I invest more in firearms to defend mah family?

Thank God that South Carolina does not have feral hogs to deal with.

Then don't buy one. And, the use of "high powered" puts you damn near losing credibility just like "assault rifle".

That's entirely up to you. But, don't tell me what I can and can't buy to defend mine. I couldn't care less what you defend your home with.

I think you have that backwards.

Well, they have proven show a dereliction of duty, so that's not good.

Anyone's opinion of what I need doesn't matter, it's a right not a need.

Actually, that is kind of the deal here.

There should be not a damn, real reason you have an arsenal that the redneck in Tremors would envy. You might want it, great.

But if that right makes it easier for the insane, hated-filled and diseased to their way to their goals, sorry, I don't find that noble at all.

If you want to drape yourself in some constitutional banner that doesn't even relate to today's climate, I feel sorry for you.

But I do understand where you are coming from. I am just shaking my head as I acknowledge that fact.

When someone goes out and buys excessive amounts of guns and what not, I kind think that has progressed into the "need" category.

We have a lot of rights in this country.

I don't feel the need to scream out how great they are. They are just what they are.
