I don't see why a team with big boosters don't throw the bank at him. He makes almost $5M/yr now and I'm guessing there's some oil men who would be willing to donate so Texas could make an offer than Bama can't/won't match.
A new program with more to work on and similar resources would make Nick Saban unstoppable. The only thing that can ever slow him down is a program getting stale. If he leaves on top at Bama he'll rebuild Texas and be just as good only new and fresh.

He'd have more resources available to him at Texas and I'd be shocked if the school along with the boosters didn't put together an offer that would blow Alabama's best offer out of the water.

With the resources available and his pick of the talent in the state, in theory, it should produce a very dominant program.

On top of that, who the hell would rather live in that mud hole that is Alabama over Austin, Texas?

I don't think Texas high school talent has any added appeal to him. He can recruit nationally at the drop of a hat. He's going to get most any player he wants regardless of where he is.

He's a mercenary, plain and simple. If Texas comes up with $10M a year, he's yours.

My question is...when Bama matches or beats the $10M to get Saban to stay, where does Texas turn then? Art Briles?

Feh.

If they want him, they're going to get him....but if they somehow don't, I don't think I want Art Briles.

He's done some good things in recent years, but this program needs a bigger, more proven name than that.

I'm not convinced anyone can just take him from Bama. They have more resources than they know what to do with and football is all they care about.

So if it's a no to Briles and Saban isn't available, what's left?

Saban would probably be bad at playing the political game. If you want to be the HC at UT you better be willing to put up with a crap ton of BS.

The only appeal I could see is if he wanted to prove another challenge to himself - to be the only guy to win a title at 3 program.

Although Texas has more power and recourses than any program in the country, Bama can match any offer put out there. an extra 5 million per year is easy for either program to pull off. He should at least play the field so he get a giant raise.

At one time there was talk about Patterson. He was a contender until he was exposed when he went to the big boy league.

As an aside, lawl at Patterson.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if they wanted a young coach to mold and they stole Kingsbury?

I seriously doubt that. So far I am liking him but I don't think he's ready for all of that.

Honestly, I think a ballsy, aggressive, young coach would be great.

I'm guessing that they go with more of a statesman though. Which will be boring.

How bout this - Chip Kelly.

I'd take him, but I'm not sure he comes over that soon into his NFL career.

Having said that, college coaches are notorious for doing just that so it would be worth it to at least call.

Aside from Saban I'd say the top realistic options for Texas would be David Shaw and Charlie Strong. Maybe Oregon's HC would be interested since he may want to get out of Kelly's shadow.

I don't think Shaw will. He's a Stanford guy and I think he sticks there til the NFL comes calling. Strong is a good bet.

Davis Shaw would be money, IMO.

Charlie Strong would be a great counter punch to aTm back. The Aggroids are really gaining ground on UT in a big was. They have raised 740 million dollars in one year. That number is pretty staggering. Plus the success of the program and recruiting.

Still, I think the old guard might have a problem wiff a black coach. That may be my imagination but there are. Ton of rich old crusty texans that run that show to some extent.

Peterson at one time said that Texas is a place he would leave for.

Kirby Smart should also get some attention.

Breaking news....

Jason Suchomel of Orangebloods.com is reporting that Texas and Mack Brown have agreed to what's believed to be a 6 year contract extension. Exact details are still unclear. More details to follow.

Whoa. I didn't see that one coming.

Sorry, Ace.
