Josh Brent positive for marijuana
Updated: June 6, 2013, 4:59 PM ET

DALLAS -- Prosecutors say Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent has tested positive for marijuana while awaiting trial for a deadly car crash.

In a motion filed Thursday, Dallas County prosecutors asked a judge to revoke Brent's $100,000 bond after he failed a urine test taken last month.

Brent is charged in the Dec. 8 car crash that killed Jerry Brown, a Cowboys practice squad player. Police have accused Brent of driving with a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.

A hearing on the prosecutors' motion has not been scheduled. Brent's attorney, George Milner, did not immediately return a phone message.

Yeah, I completely agree. Well, except I do find it a bit funny that he threw away a potentially good career.

Oh...we were waiting to see if he would be suspended by the NFL. He might not get suspended for killing a guy, but he'll have to sit out 4 games for smoking weed.

If you read the whole article it makes it sound like the positive test could be from up to 30 days ago. It does not necessarily mean he was drinking, called into court to explain, and then went out a week later and smoked weed. It could all have been from the same incident.

Cowboys DT Brent tests positive for marijuana

By NOMAAN MERCHANT (Associated Press) | The Associated Press – 8 minutes ago

DALLAS (AP) -- Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent tested positive for marijuana while he awaits trial in a car crash that killed a teammate, prosecutors said Thursday in asking a judge to revoke the player's $100,000 bond and issue a warrant for his arrest.

Police have accused Brent of driving with a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit during the Dec. 8 car crash that killed Jerry Brown, a Cowboys practice squad player.

Prosecutors said in their motion that Brent failed a urine test taken after a May 24 court hearing in which they had sought for his bond to be revoked due to problems with his alcohol monitoring. While the judge declined to do so, he did order Brent to provide a urine sample.

A hearing on the prosecutors' motion had not been scheduled Thursday afternoon. Brent's attorney, George Milner, did not immediately return a phone message and a spokeswoman for the Dallas County district attorney declined to comment.

Brent is required to wear an alcohol ankle monitor and appear for regular meetings with a county officer. Judge Robert Burns last month ordered a second form of monitoring to take breath samples, and for Brent to provide the sample after the hearing.

The prosecutors' motion said the test results indicate Brent took marijuana within 30 days of the test date and it did not appear the exposure to marijuana was second-hand.

''Given the defendant's prior alcohol-related contacts and the severity of the charge in this case, it is the State's belief that the defendant continues to pose a threat to the community,'' prosecutors said in the motion.

A crash report released by suburban Dallas police says Brent was driving the night of the crash with a suspended driver's license from Illinois, where he pleaded guilty three years ago to a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge. Brent and Brown both played college football at Illinois.

Brent faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of intoxication manslaughter, though he could also get probation.

---------------

So he was called into court back on May 24 because the monitor picked up alcohol in his system, he had already used marijuana at that point, he goes into court, the judge orders a urine test, which he of course fails since he had probably used the weed at the same time as the alcohol.

I'm confused...do you want him in jail or what?

I don't think this changes anything if it was from before the last time they hauled him into court. Sounds to me like the DA is fishing for a big name.

My favorite line of the day so far: "Josh Brent's attorneys were trying to determine how alcohol got into his system." Two guesses?

A potential defense for Josh Brent: inhaled second-hand marijuana smoke while gargling Scope in a public men's room. #sarcasm

The dude killed someone fairly recently, yet he does not have the resolve to stay away from weed or alcohol. LOL@ Brent being a big name.
