When was Claiborne ever decent?
Garrett kept building him up throughout training camp this summer.. and he got in a couple fights.. that counts, right? :happydance

Then he got "hurt", didn't play all preseason, and then had the game-sealing pick against the Rams. Totally legit CB if you ask me!!

He needs to be salvaged elsewhere...his walkout of practice because he was not starting showed a softness we don't need on the team.
Or coming back from it made him a better person. You might be disgusted but I think if he can remain healthy he has a chance to be a good player.

I remember how much better the defense played when he returned for the season finale last year vs the Eagles.

This team needs to strengthen the front seven in front of him before just cutting him out of spite, and Claiborne needs to strengthen his body.

How did it make him a better person...he immediately got hurt and has not been heard from since.

Better person, as in that experience was a character lesson. I already said he has to build his strength. It took Michael Irvin three full seasons to get his body right.

How did it improve his character? Besides you saying it I see no evidence of it.

First of all I didn't say it did, I said it could have. My initial post was in response to a comment that his walkout was definitely an act of weakness this team didn't need more of. I agree it was a bitch move we don't need to see more of, but at the same time he did return to face the music and the experience could have changed him.

We'll never know for sure though until he gets his body right and stays on the field.

Will he be the guy the superstar ballhawk Cowboys thought they were getting? Probably not, but I saw enough talent there that he could be a legit corner.

Better to keep him and sign some DL/LBs than dump him and have to grab another CB too.

I think we might need to shake up our DB coaching. Having Church, Carr, and Claiborne regress drastically from 2012 makes me feel like we're having some serious issues there.

You can only do so much when the QB doesn't fear getting hit.

Clearly our pass rush isn't great, but we're still seeing a lot of mental mistakes from DBs, a pass rush may cover those mistakes, but lack of one doesn't excuse them.

Just saw Flacco's stats for the day.....yikes!

3/16, 27yds, and 2 INTs

Manziel played better than that in his debut.

I wonder what the cap implications of cutting Carr would be.
According to this web site: http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/dallas-cowboys/

pre-June 1st - $566,000 saved by cutting him, $12,151,000 dead money
post-June 1st - $6,641,500 saved, $12,151,000 dead money with the final ~6 million hitting in 2016

I think with a $8 million base salary next year there is zero chance he is not a post-June 1st cut.

Either Carr has fallen off substantially or the Chiefs front 7 and the rest of the secondary made Carr look much better than he was. Probably a combination of the two. Sucks we need to find 2 new starting CB's. Most likely 1 with Scandrick at the other spot. I just hate that we may be put is a situation were we actually could consider a CB in the first again.

I just hope we have a DL fall to us in the first that we can't pass on and then land a CB in the 2nd or 3rd, or better yet in FA.

If the right corner were to fall to our second round pick I'd have no problem taking one. Especially since our second round pick will be near the end of the round.

Definitely not, though I know regaining confidence for a CB is made much, much harder without a pass rush or good safety play.

I credit our offense and Romo in particular for this season. Without them we don't play with the lead, and without the lead the DL can't pin their ears back which our defense is decent at doing.

How many times have we jumped to a 21-0 lead over pass-happy/gimmick teams this year? Three?

That's what I'm thinking. I just hope we don't target CB, but if one falls in our lap I'd take him in the 2nd or 3rd.

It comes down to talent level. If we go BPA we can't lose, especially if BPA is at positions of need (DL, LB, CB, S). I want the defense to improve, but not at the expense of our team.

If the next Dez drops to us, we've got to take him.

I'm good with our LBs...I think we can find a lower tier FA and be fine if we can bring back McClain. Hitchens is really playing well and Smith is decent.
