So what do you do with all the Batman and Superman series that had different actors , director s etc.? Don't use the reboot approach here because that isn't legitimate in my opinion because it's also different directors actors etc., just like Dumb and Dumberer. Not mention all the other super hero movies.
Super Hero movies are based on previously written story's and concepts. They are basically adaptations. Dumb and Dumber was an original story that a studio bought and when it was a success, the studio went full on stupid trying to capitalize on it anyway it could. The moment any of the actors or the Farrelly Bros acknowledge it, I will.

All movie scripts are written stories so I don't know what your comments mean in this regard. The second D& D was based on a previous story as well. Just don't follow.

you are missing Monty Python, you can not make a comedy top ten and not have Monty Python in there.
I agree with this but I also understand that Monty Python isn't for everyone. Holy Grail is an absolute all-timer for me. I didn't realize until I was in college how dorky the hard core Python fans are but I don't care. Those guys were great.

Never got Monty Python...generally I don't like British humor. I did make an exception for Russell Brand...Get Him to The Greek is one of my favorite newer comedies.

A few great comedies, IMO, that I haven't seen listed:

This Is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, and Best In Show: I lump them all together because they are all Christopher Guest mockumentaries. I think they are all brilliant.

Super Troopers and Beerfest: again, movies by the same troupe. Super Troopers is clearly better, IMO, but Beerfest is a little underrated in the dumb comedy arena, IMO.

Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre: continuing with the multiple movies by the same director and/or troupe Napoleon Dynamite grabbed me from the get-go while it took Nacho Libre a little time to grow on me, but in the end I hold both in high regard.

A couple of classics that qualify as comedies and are just great movies: Blues Brothers and Animal House.

Forty Year Old Virgin really cracked me up as well.

My parents were huge fans of Monty Python and British comedy in general so I grew up watching reruns of the old TV shows (Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Benny Hill, the Young Ones, et. al), the Python movies, etc. It definitely clicked with me.

Tropic Thunder is in the mix for me...and I will give a shout out to Saving Silverman...that is pretty funny.

I enjoy a lot of Brit humor and I do like Holy Grail. Didn't like the TV show or other movies...though Cleese in Faulty Towers was greatness.

I just don't think Holy Grail is top 10.

The timing is different and just what they find funny too. Feels too old for me to like. Much like Belushi on SNL...I did not get that either...particularly the samurai bit.

It's all a matter of taste. I know some people who would put multiple Lampoon's movies in their top 5. Animal House and Vacation are both great, but not with the elite.

Jurrasic World trailer is out. Looks good, but I like the idea of actual dinosaurs being what they run from. Not some fake one they decided to make. Now it's more like Godzilla.

Tommy Boy is a classic...and if you branch out some the Beverly Hills Cop1 and 2 are in there as well.

Chris Pratt is the new go to action guy...only a matter of time before he is the new Indiana Jones.

Just saw the trailer. Looks pretty good. I think I can last until next June in case anyone is wondering.
