I think the last two opponents we've faced have actually been more or less selling out to stop the run and deciding that they'll make us beat them through the air, and we haven't been able to.

I know everyone thinks giving thirty carries to Murray means an automatic W but I don't agree. Teams are just not going to let you steamroll them for 16 straight weeks, they are putting WAY too many guys in the box and we were forced into a lot more third and longs today because of it, as opposed to weeks ago when we were getting lots of third and shorts.

I think the biggest failing right now is the offensive staff having absolutely no answer to making these defenses back off. They seem incapable of making them pay downfield or with short stuff consistently either. I'm sure a lot of that today was Weeden but for 3 quarters last week with Romo they didn't have an answer either.
Sort of. When it's 3rd and short run it. Last week in OT, that was bullshit playcalling. Today with empty backfield on 3rd and 2 or whatever. Screw that.

Weeden didn't throw it beyond 20 yards all day. It wasn't like he was running for his life like Romo last week. Take a shot or two deep early, stretch the D and run it. Plus, he played absolutely awful.

I hated the call on 4th down. Agree with going for it, but hate bunching all 11 guys that close to ball. Spread it out a little to get a few of the defenders away from the ball. Especially in a game where the D is doing a pretty good job at stopping the run. Still should be able to get a yard if everyone does their job.

Parnell and Bernadeau both did well enough today. Weeden was not under constant pressure and the run game was decent enough. Just did not make throws when we needed them.
Or throws were actually made and someone, not saying who, dropped them.

Yeah, you "hate" the call on fourth and one to run it smash mouth but everyone has been lauding the team for saying "we're gonna do what we do and you can't stop us" -- and when they've tried to get away from that they have been criticized.

The fact is, you are just not gonna be able to three yards and a cloud of dirt your way to 12 wins in today's NFL.
Gotta throw it and we haven't been able to have any success at all in that capacity the last 2 weeks.

You know, at least one of our WRs should be able to beat tight press coverage when they 0 blitz.

I mean, one of them is getting ready to hook up wit JayZ and get pizaid!!!!

Did you even watch the game? The throws minus two to Dez were not made. Weeden was way off all night. I know you have this hate for Dez but outside of two drops weren't really even close.

Yeah it's hard to blame Garrett or Bryant or whoever else for tonight's shit show. Weeden is just god awful.

When have they lined up that tight to the ball this year with all 11 guys? How many times? I've hated that formation for 30+ years. The D has 11 guys right there in the box. Every guy has to make their block for the most part.

Go your normal formation with 2 wide and remove the CB's. Now the safeties have to think about the pass a little and are not as close to the LOS. There's more room to run. I just hate that bunched up formation. Always have, always will.

This is correct. Only way I like that formation is if its the QB pushing forward but you could still do that with the above formation.

I think it's more about situational awareness by the coaches. Bunch formations and pounding away at the Skins would have worked because they suck and it had worked all night.

Today, against a great run D you need to make them work for it. You can't give away your gameplan and telegraph your move like that formation did.

This. If I didn't know better I'd think they made their gameplan without even looking at any tape of Arizona's D

Why Schmitty has to defend the 4th and 1 call if baffling...not only that, but a long drawn out explanation. Jesus Christ...it has nothing to do with you.

I would have been for a PA to a TE on the 4th down call, but Weeden throws only fastballs, 1 yard away or 30 yards away...both the same speed.

The problem was that not every route is going to be a clean route. When any of the WRs were bumped off their routes the slightest Weeden patted the ball and looked lost. Against air he probably kills it. That is the beauty of Romo...he can improvise.

I don't know how you win with a QB as bad as Weeden. The answer is more along the lines of "don't go into the season with a backup that can't play at all". I do wonder though, with Weeden's strength supposedly being his big arm, why weren't we taking shots downfield?

Seems like every coach that doesn't trust a QB tries to shorten the passing game instead of tailoring the passing game to the player's strengths.

Look no further than the pass to Ellington on the goal line...that would have been easy money.

Shit...the two ints were on throws that were intermediate...you go deeper and the S will just fair catch it.

Weeden is awful, from having no touch on his passes to staring down his receiver he hasn't improved at all from what I saw of him in Cleveland. Random thought- think Josh Gordon may be even better than I thought.
