Weeden's probably not the worst QB in the world, but hoping for him to be anything other than a servicable backup is foolish to me. I certainly hope I'm wrong
I actually agree with this. Right now he is our third QB on a deal that allows us to cut him at any time with no consequences. This is the equivalent of signing an undrafted QB to be our third stringer except he is 30 instead of 22.

As far as how he looked with the Browns I can't say I watched them play at all really. If anyone on this board is claiming they watched the Browns extensively last year I'd probably call bullshit. His TD to INT ration isn't bad for a young QB. His numbers don't look horrendous. Of course the Browns record over that span was horrendous and I don't think their defense was the main problem.

Sign a QB who was pushed aside by Jason Campbell.

Sign DT who was cut to make room for Bobby Carpenter.

It's amazing that we can't see what is being built here.

All joking aside this isn't a bad signing long as it's just for a camp arm, because there's noway our braintrust can coach him up if Norv couldn't do it

With the exception of maybe one person here I think we know. Its the Joe Fans that are at fault here.

No QBs under 30 on the roster. I like where this is heading.

Does anyone really think Weeden was signed as a long or short term solution to anything? He is a stop gap measure awaiting the decision of Orton' s status and Romo' s back surgery. I see nothing more in this signing.

Apparently this douche does.

hardly. Jerry would never plan for a future in which Romo didn't play out his ridiculous contract, the fantasy world he lives in doesn't allow for that possibility.
I agree. Romo' s contract is prima facie evidence that he is the current and long term QB selection for Dallas. Any speculation about finding his replacement is moot for the next three years short of Romo not being able to play.

Romo not being able to play is a distinct possibility.

As a guy who may have a future as a career backup QB, his age might not be as much of a downside as you might think. Since he's 30, he should be mature enough to accept his role and not be hung up on feeling like he should be a star.

I don't think he is that bad either. My position was more toward some who seriously thought the Dallas organization was acquiring him with the idea in mind that he was part of the future. Also part of my responses were to those who thought he was a waste to acquire. With the current status of the Dallas QBs, he is a pretty decent pickup.

In our current situation we needed a cheap third. Romo might not play the opener. He works for that role, definitely. Even if Romo plays the final preseason game we probably should keep him because Romo is one awkward sack away from another back injury from now until his retirement.
