He doesn't have to be a difference maker in Den, which is not what I said or implied at all. He wouldn't have to be anyways, just a fit for both team and player IMO.
You said he would be a decent replacement for Decker. In order for that to be true, then Austin would have to be a difference maker in order to come anywhere close to Decker's 1,288 yards and 11TD's from last year.

That's why I said he didn't have that type of ability anymore. So if you didn't imply that he could still be a difference maker or something along those lines, then what exactly would you consider a decent replacement for the statistics Decker put up? Because 400-500 yards and 4 scores isn't it, and that's about what I think Austin could give them at best.

When you start hearing about nerve issues in a 32 year old player, you know the end is near. It's unfortunate and it opens up yet another hole on the DL but long-term it's the right move. He probably has another 2-3 solid years in him but I would never gamble the amount of money that we had him signed to in order to find out, we tried to get him to take a paycut, he didn't want to, and that's that.

Weird how they keep saying the DeMarcus Ware "era" is over. What era would that be? The one where we were like .500 during his tenure?

No. The .500 era will continue.

If you believe some of the people here, it would be called the Meaningless Sack Era.

I don't see that happening.

I'm curious what the team was trying to get him down to so he could stay.

Yeah, I'd be curious to see that number, too.

Ring of Honor is in DeMarcus Ware's future even if he's gone for good from Cowboys' roster

On multiple occasions Cowboys owner Jerry Jones called DeMarcus Ware a cornerstone player for the franchise. Ware certainly fit that bill throughout his tenure that ended with his release Tuesday.

Nine years ago, Ware was drafted to be the linchpin in the new 3-4 defense the team was installing for the first time ever. Designated a starter from Day One, Ware made an immediate impact. He collected a club-record 117 sacks and earned seven Pro Bowl invitations, developing into one of the game’s best players.

“I’ve been around special,” Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli said last summer. “He’s special.”

Consideration for enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame figures to be in Ware’s future. So is placement in the Cowboys’ hallowed Ring of Honor.

In an era when quarterbacks throw the ball all over the field and dominate the action, pass rushers are coveted. And few have been as disruptive as Ware.
“He brings it every day, he brings it every snap,” coach Jason Garrett said last August. “He’s quick, he’s fast, he’s explosive, he’s strong, he’s long.”

But he’s not perfect. In recent years, Ware has failed to change the course of games like a star defender should.

Besides his interception on the first play from scrimmage in a season-opening victory over the New York Giants last September, it’s hard to recall a defining moment since his inspirational performance in a stunning win over New Orleans in 2009. In that game, Ware sacked Drew Brees twice and forced two fumbles less than a week after being carted off the field with a sprained neck. For a player who missed only three regular-season games in nine seasons, his effort that day demonstrated his grittiness and mental fortitude.

That season, Ware helped lead the Cowboys to their only playoff victory since 1996. Far too many times, he was part of disappointing teams that experienced only a smidgeon of success. Since Ware joined the Cowboys, they are 81-63, made the playoffs three times but never advanced beyond the divisional round.

Like tight end Jason Witten, Ware had the misfortune of playing during one of the barren eras of the franchise. Only two of the 20 inductees in the Ring of Honor — Don Meredith and Don Perkins — are not associated with a Super Bowl-winning team.

If this is indeed the final chapter of Ware’s time with the Cowboys, then he could share that dubious distinction.

It’s all part of Ware’s record — one that still scintillates considering all he has accomplished during a memorable career in Dallas.

Ware will probably get $7 mil. from someone but he will probably be on the injured list 5 or 6 games into the season.

I would think Jerry would have taken him back at $7M. He must be convinced he's going to get $10.

You know where I stand on that.

I can count in one hand how many big game performances and/or clutch sacks he had in his career.

Didn't he also get a pick 6 that game too?

Does Ware have a better ROH argument than Romo? If so, why?
I'd say Ware is arguably the most talented defender we've ever had.

He didn't have a mean streak and I didn't think he was much of a big game player, but he was still one heck of a pass rusher and he's the all time franchise leader in sacks despite us having some amazing defensive players in our history.

I think he's much more worthy of the ROH than a choking bitch of a QB who has single-handedly lost us games and whose numbers are inflated due to the passing era that we're in.

F Romo.
