Listened to his interview... he said Eberflus is proven and has had great defenses when he was here and in Chicago.
Looked at the stats and in Chicago, here are ranks for yards/points allowed:
32/29
12/20
27/13
It's sad, you don't blitz and guys are wide open against your shit zones. Why not blitz and at least make the QB find the code open guy quickly? And then maybe not have your corners 10 yards off the ball bailing at the snap.
Maybe they can move him to LB?
Couldn't be any worse.Maybe they can move him to LB?
I'm guessing LB is a position they are trying to cut corners with the cap. That, combined with almost complete ineptitude drafting DL has us in our current predicament. The fact that our LB play is so shit, combined with the fact that it is Eberflus' speciality and he supposedly had a direct hand in bringing most of them in (Murray, Sanborn, James), tells me that his defensive philosophy might just be cooked.
That's probably part of it but Eberflus has a track record of getting high quality LB play out of late round picks, which is why I'm wondering if his whole defensive philosophy might just be outdated and that he's out of ideas.I'm guessing LB is a position they are trying to cut corners with the cap. You could probably get away with these schlubs at LB if they were as good at picking DL as they are OL.
Perhaps availability played a role in who we were able to acquire. That's probably part of it but Eberflus has a track record of getting high quality LB play out of late round picks, which is why I'm wondering if his whole defensive philosophy might just be outdated and that he's out of ideas.
I'm not saying that's definitely the case, but it's something I've definitely been wondering about given how simplistic the scheme is and how lost basically everybody seems to be on a weekly basis.
I'll buy that with Murray, but Sanborn and James were both pet cat types for Eberflus and neither are seemingly very good.Perhaps availability played a role in who we were able to acquire.
I’d start working the phone now unloading some guys and acquiring assets. Attack it like Jimmy Johnson did, with an abundance of picks. For the most part we don't even try to draft front seven guys high. Micah was great, Mazi a huge bust, but who else in the first couple of rounds in the last several years, Trysten Hill?
We just need to devote the picks to it. Preferably with a new DC.
At least we don't need anything on the OL for a while.
James has potential, but right now, he's filling the stat box with tackles 5 yards past the LOS.I'll buy that with Murray, but Sanborn and James were both pet cat types for Eberflus and neither are seemingly very good.
Sanborn in particular can't do anything outside of about a 10x10 yard box, and James has shown some promise but has been plenty bad himself.
I can write off the play not being great but when a DC spent years cutting his teeth as an LB coach (and who played LB), and whose top lieutenant is the LB coach (Borgonzi), it shouldn't be the worst unit on the field.
Kneeland and DLaw were both selected in the second round. That's where the comparisons end. He's a jag.For the most part we don't even try to draft front seven guys high. Micah was great, Mazi a huge bust, but who else in the first couple of rounds in the last several years, Trysten Hill?
