In 1978, the year the most major rules changes hit, he was second in TD's and third in passing yards one year removed from retirement. He had even more of each in his last season, and led the league in passer rating both years (more than 50 attempts).I think part of it is that he mostly played at the tail end of an era before the rules changed to help offenses be dominant.
I caught DD at the midpoint and tailside of this career. Not a great player, but it was cool that he officially went by his first two initials.Damn, DD Lewis. Those late 70's teams were when I started.
Loved DD Lewis, Cliff Harris, Charlie Waters, Dennis Thurman, that D line, that O line, Bob Breunig, Mike Hegman, loaded at WR, loaded at RB, Staubach and the pedo at K. I missed some guys, but that was the beginning for me. And coach Landry.
