I don't think a guard moves the needle for this team at all. They're fine at guard.

I wonder if some of these pundits look at Zack Martin retiring and think that automatically means we need a guard without really knowing our roster.

Nevermind the fact that we played half the year last year without Martin and were just fine.

Well, Membou could also replace Steele's sorry ass at RT.

It's certainly not my first choice but I really like Booker, Zabel and even Donovan Jackson as interior OL prospects.

If we can add a 2, or a 3/4 or something along those lines while moving back to about 20-22 and adding Booker or Zabel while giving us a bunch of ammunition to address RB, DL and WR in the 2nd/3rd, that's not bad.

If we took someone like Booker/Zabel and they got close to their potential we'd basically have the best interior OL in the league for the next 5ish years.

Moving back and adding a premium pick is the only way it's palatable to me. But even then, we desperately need playmaking on offense. I'd hate to miss out on a WR or RB as a consequence of technically upgrading guard but not really translating to more wins in reality.

I agree, I wouldn't want to take someone like Banks at 12, has to be after a trade down.

For the most part I don't believe in miracle coaches, but I really do think Adams has something as far as making just above-average talent into a good OL. He did it in Arizona. Time for that to happen here with the Basses and Richards of the world. We can't be using our first rounder on the OL every time a starter retires or leaves.

This is why I'm of the opinion that Oline coach is the most important position coach. They actually have a massive impact on the success or failure of these guys. Oline isn't really about being the greatest athlete. It's more about the unit than the individual.

Simmons is a clean player outside of the injury but I am not sure he makes things different than they have been. We need playmakers on O like right now.
Like the player don’t want him over a playmaker

We have had that before and done jack all with it. Give me playmakers

Schwinsinger would be great on defense. But I can't justify him over say the badass DTs that will be available in the second.
I agree. 2nd round looks like the perfect spot for a DT. As long as they stick to their board and don’t do anything out of left field this should be a solid draft. Our needs line up with the strength of the draft.

Yea it's way too early to start talking about moving on from Guyton.

If he doesn't look at all improved this year, sure, but right now he could just as easily be our starting LT for the next 5-7 years as he could be a bust that's gone in 2.

And even then I think you'd have to consider shifting him to RT and getting rid of Steele, depending how Steele looks next year.

Yeah I just don't see how you can give up on him already. He was what you should expect, a physically lifted dude who needs a year of development. They should have never drafted him if they were going to give up after a year. That makes no sense.

It all depends on his attitude. If he's just going through normal rookie growing pains, he'll probably be fine. But if he's mentally immature or soft, he might never make it.

The guy says all the right things in interviews. I just hope he's not the smooth talker type who knows what to say but doesn't actually do it.

Once again the media people around the team probably have a good idea of what's going on with him, but it might upset their gravy train if they told us, so we have no idea.

Watching that Roku show on the 23 draft with all the war room Deuce footage, I'm curious what you guys think happened here with him. I don't buy that they only drafted him because of his dad; several of us talked about how good he was at K-State well before that draft. He seemed to be at least one of the highest on their board at the time. The debate they showed was between him and Brooks, who they got later anyway.

I thought maybe Mike was too biased against him because of his size, but MM seemed okay with him. Jerry specifically asked if he was too small to play and Mike said no, we just have to use him the right way.

What do you think the deal was? I don't think there's much doubt he can run the ball. Was Mike too biased against him? Was he legitimately too small to pass block? Did they insist on someone who could break more tackles? What happened?
