I don't think Kiper has any special inside info, he's just making best guesses.
Bryan Broadus claims that the night before the draft Kiper nailed the Cowboys picking Tyler Smith. So I guess if Kiper is saying a name for us the night before the draft I may perk up and listen. Before then it is all white noise. Just like Dallas taking a RB at 12 was like 3 mocks in a row.

Brugler's 7-rounder:

Dallas Cowboys
1 (12). WR Matthew Golden, Texas
2 (44). RB Quinshon Judkins, Ohio State
3 (76). DT Shemar Turner, Texas A&M
5 (149). CB Korie Black, Oklahoma State
5 (174). Edge Fadil Diggs, Syracuse
6 (204). LB Cody Simon, Ohio State
6 (211). CB/S Jordan Hancock, Ohio State
7 (217). S Kitan Crawford, Nevada
7 (239). G Hayden Conner, Texas
7 (247). OT Jack Nelson, Wisconsin

Given how it turned out I'd have done something slightly different (i.e. taken Tyleik Williams or Donovan Jackson in the 2nd) but that'd be a very good overall haul.

Golden is a reach, but thanks to being forced to draft a WR who can contribute in 2025, we are grabbing a 2nd round talent in the early first round. I’d have rather had Burden, who can produce when he has even decent QB’ing.

Turner is another ‘meh’ player. I appreciate going DT, but we of course missed the meat of the position and go a round late, with prolly RB talent all but equal to what Justin’s will bring still on the board.

Instead we get a solid but not special back, good but not great WR, and average DT in the mold of a Gallimore.

Black is a find in round 5 though as is Diggs

Golden is pretty much a consensus top 20 pick in this class so I disagree that he's a reach.

Can't do anything about this class being weaker or stronger than past years.

This is the heart of the problem. He’s top 20 because there’s no other choice.

I would prefer Burden or Egbuka with a trade down if they are fixated on WR

Neither will make the impact Harmon would.

But that doesn't mean he's a reach.

Would you take Zay Flowers or Jordan Addison in the top 20 of this draft?

I'd take Harmon before either of the two WR's, but they're right behind him for me.

I'm kind of shocked at this.

You realize Harmon was only 313 at the Combine?

I like Harmon because he isn't just an NT slug. I actually think he could play 3 tech and rush the passer but he has the size and physicality to play NT.

Anyway, I know you were just giving Ravi shit. I'm surprised he doesn't want someone 330-350 pounds at pick 12.

Fairly certain that Grant is next on his list after Harmon, and not just for DT's, on the entire list.

Golden isn't a reach to me. If I ranked the top 15 players in the draft he would probably be top 15 for me. But teams are going to reach on QBs, OTs and pass rushers that I would probably have below him.

Everyone wants to rank these receivers against last years class. But that was a spectacular WR class. But on an average year, we have seen guys of similar caliber to McMillan go top 10. We have seen receivers like Golden go between 10-20. Very similar type of receiver to Garrett Wilson frankly. Last years class was just freakish.

Would I take Garrett Wilson at 12? Of course.

I think the fourth or fifth WR taken last year would have gone first among WRs this year. I hate taking the best of a weak class. Alexander Wright was that guy in 1990, and we had to go right back to the well and grab Harper in the top 15 the next year.

How about instead taking one of the best DT’s in an elite class?

RB is unusually deep. Of all of Dallas’s ‘need’ positions, this is definitely the one you can wait on.

Draft Harmon round 1 and BPA in round 2, then Harvey or Tuten in round 3. If Burden falls to day 2, trade up and snag him.

Yea it's really nitpicking, a guy like Olave was very similar to Golden as a prospect and went 11th in 2022 in a stronger class.

Sure, taking Golden at 12 is disappointing compared to last year's class, which was one of the best in the last 10-15 years, but more often than not players like him go in the mid-1st whereas Brian Thomas going in the 20's is the actual outlier.

Last year wasn't just a strong class, it was one of the best WR classes at the top in the last 10-20 years.

As I said, I love Harmon and would take him over the WR's, but if you want to wait for a class like last year's to take a WR in the first you might be waiting another 5-10 years.

Just because it's an average WR class doesn't mean it's a reach to take Golden where he's projected to go.
