Dave Campo was not a good head coach. But I will say this. That dude was given absolutely no chance. His teams were complete trash. But one thing about those years always stuck out. His teams, for as bad as they were, always played hard. And that is why I will always say that he was a better HC than Jason Garrett. Garrett had infinitely better talent on his teams, yet always seemed to find his way to 8-8. Sure, the talent would rise and they'd throw out a decent season. But fail when it mattered. Yeah, his 8 wins were better than Campo's 5 wins on the surface. But if you really look at those records and teams... The talent divide on those teams was immense. Campo got more out of his teams than Jason Garrett did with his.

And I'll apologize in advance if I've just unleashed the beast.
The Hindenburg was bad, but it gets a bad rap when compared to the Titanic. Yes, the Hindenburg caught fire and exploded, but the captain was largely blameless. I think there's pretty solid evidence that the Titanic's captain was far more culpable for his disaster.

This is going to be bleak as fuck for the foreseeable future.

Tried several times to get this drawn and for the first time ever got nothing but error messages.

I think the Garrett-bot may have merged with Grok.

And he added to each of those columns while working with one hand tied behind his back for the past 5 years.

The other two coaches never had to do that.
Yeah, it's sad but based on the start of this coaching search I think I'd be thrilled to just have McCarthy back. He is a good coach. I won't say he is great because I think his clock management and sometimes game time decisions are questionable. But I also think no coach is perfect with those things. I don't always love his choice of assistants either. I think sometimes he favors his buddies over the best possible candidates. But again, I think I'm nit picking a little. Ultimate I think he was put in a shitty situation and Jerry was using this contract to make it even a shittier possible situation.

Which really just ultimately means the real problem is Jerry. It's always been Jerry. He has been a problem all the way back to the Jimmy Johnson leaving Dallas days. He had a special coach and let that guy walk right out the door.

Day 3 of the "search" and not a single formal interview request (or interview) has been reported. This organization is so demented.
Jerry really was blindsided by this. He never imagined a coach would turn down his beloved kingdom for another team.

I think he really thought McCarthy would just bend over and take whatever shit sandwhich he handed him. But a short term contract, low level money and being forced to train your replacement in Witten was more than just about anyone could handle. Especially when McCarthy has potential opportunities somewhere else. I don't blame him for saying I'm moving on.

Unless he already has an "understanding" with someone and just needs to get the Rooney rubes out of the way.

I don't think he was blindsided because I don't think he truly wanted him back.

I think it was more like I'd prefer he come back but I'm not dying for him to do so.

The dragging of their feet has nothing to do with not expecting McCarthy to turn them down. It has everything to do with how incompetent they are and they are simply following the same steps they always take when handling important football matters.

Things that call for urgency never really do with them because football stuff just isn't all that important to them.

They'll get to it when they get to it -- that's basically the Jones way.

And I would assume that McCarthy's agent has informed him that there's at the very least a sense around the league that he'll be hired elsewhere.

If that's the case why wouldn't you just set up the fraud Rooney Rule interviews and at least get them out of the way?

Also out of curiosity do you have to do two minority interviews if you're actually hiring a minority head coach? I mean that would seem a bit silly to me.
