Here's a scary thought to keep you up at night.

During the broadcast last night, Buck mentioned that Zimmer was very impressed with the job that Kendricks is doing this year. And supposedly Zimmer told Kendricks, who is in a 1 year deal, that Kendricks has a spot on this team next year if he wants it.

Why would Zimmer say this? Zimmer himself is on a 1 year deal, and the team is such a shit show (including Zimmer's defense) that it's hard to imagine the coaching staff coming back next year.

So why would Zimmer definitively say to Kendricks that there's a place for him on the team next year if it's not even likely that Zimmer himself will be with the team next year?

Is it just coach speak? Wishful thinking? Delusion?

OR...

~dramatic conspiracy theory pause~

Did Zimmer accidentally tip his hand?

Does Zimmer know already that Jerry is hiring Deion next year to be the HC, and Deion would want to retain Zimmer as DC considering they have a great working relationship and are close friends?

Or door 3, he knows Jerry will force him as DC on whoever the HC hire is, not necessarily Deion.

I think Kendricks has been pretty decent actually but obviously that doesn't have anything to do with the bigger picture.

No shit. He's a third wave free agent who's only here because he once labored for Zimmer. No way he should be on the roster next year.

Not sure if this was mentioned earlier ...

The speculation is going to run rampant for the next 2 months because the Cowboys are a lightning rod and there isn't anything else to really talk about with them, so I wouldn't put too much into every little thing these people speculate on. With that said, Belichick makes too much sense for both sides and there's no way he isn't at least a "top consideration" or whatever phrasing Schefter used.

This is a horrendous mischaracterization of what Schefter said. This is why we should be quoting the source directly rather than second or third hand.

Schefter is basically saying there are league sources who "think" Belichick will be a top candidate for Dallas.

That's way way different than saying he "will be", which implies inside knowledge. That would have been a much more definitive statement, but that's not what Schefter said.

“Well, Scott [Van Pelt], you mentioned adversity,” Schefter said. “It’s adversity and it’s uncertainty because when you look at this Dallas Cowboys roster and its organization, there are any number of people in the last year of their contract. You see the head coach, Mike McCarthy, and many of the assistant coaches all in the last year. Zack Martin last year, DeMarcus Lawrence last year of the deal. Cooper Rush and Trey Lance last year of the deal. Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle in the last year of their deals. So, lots of questions that his team will have to answer. Many of them down the stretch, of course, will be focused on the head coach, Mike McCarthy, whose contract expires after the season.

“We’ll see whether and how Dallas decides to handle that. But obviously, lots of speculation swirling about what the Cowboys will do. People have even thought about Bill Belichick, him being spotted in Dallas last week. Bill Belichick was in Dallas last week, but it wasn’t to be with the Cowboys. It was for a previously scheduled speaking engagement. Still, that doesn’t stop the idea that there are people across the league who continue to believe that Bill Belichick will be one of the top considerations for Jerry Jones after the season, and we’ll see what direction Jerry Jones decides to take for his franchise, right now, that is struggling.”

Yeah if that were the case, you'd have to have a better field general that Juanway Fucking Thomas saying "Yep i like the look, fuck any kind of forethought and strategy, fake punt bitches." That's ridiculous and makes me wonder if any of our coaches or players have a brain in their head at all. Unbelievable.

It is a bit frightening. It is one thing to trust your players to make decisions, but good lord that was an incredibly bad decision and it is probably not the first time considering our ridiculous history with the gadget plays.
