Stumbled on this old PBS show from 1980, Free to Choose, by Milton Friedman. They showed the documentary, then followed it up with a debate between Friedman and a young Thomas Sowell vs a few people on the left.
He and Sowell are pointing out the obvious factors of perpetual welfare rotting people's souls, the inefficiency of these government programs, and the waste of taxpayer dollars inherent to the whole thing.
So striking the differences from today. One, you wouldn't even be allowed to have this opinion on msm today - it would be racist, white supremacist, etc. Two, the intellectual nature of the post-show debate. It's the actual exchange of ideas between intelligent people , not just shouting and idiocracy. And three, that this was on PBS. It's incomprehensible that PBS would carry anything like this today, being now a propaganda arm of the government.
