I'd be happier if he were a phenomenal qb who just couldn't stay healthy, but they got rid of him because he's been bad on the field.
Get used to this. We might be ahead of the curve, here okay?

Lookit, the college game is getting weird with the whole portal thing. That makes it even harder. Positive or not this HS QB has NFL exposure.

I think that may be the only reason I like it. Dak is mediocre and a hot mess in the playoffs, so shoving a poker up his ass may be the motivation he needs. If not, then cut his ass.

I mean his preseason stats this preseason don't look bad at all. I'll admit I didn't actually watch those games though.

I mean I think everyone is talking about Lance like he was out there doing Richardson things. He wasn't that bad.

I saw him against the raiders and I wasn't impressed at all. I believe I posted about it somewhere. I just don't like the player.

I dunno. We could've traded a 4th for a guy who would see the field this year at some other position (LB, DT, etc.)

Yeah I'm going to watch the 49ers/Broncos preseason game now purely out of curiosity. Well, I'll watch the Lance part anyway.

Had we traded for, say, Akili Smith after he flamed out in Cincinnati, you could say all the same things we're trying to justify the Lance trade with now. First rounder, physical traits, all the tools, maybe they can fix him, etc.

These flyers on 1st round QB busts very rarely work out. Teams don't give up on those guys lightly.
Akili Smith played like 5 years in Cincy and were still terrible when he left. Lance was in SF for two years, his rookie season where everybody knew he'd sit as a developmentally guy and his second year he popped an ACL in the opener. He's literally played like 4 games, he hasn't proven himself to be shit ever multiple seasons like so many other top 5 QB's, that's not a reason for optimism but the unknown factor is still there.

Most importantly the 49ers have a guy who they think is their franchise guy who they probably would've went to the SB with last year. Lance could just flat out suck forever but the 49ers aren't moving on from him and searching for a new QB because they suck.

For all we know he told them he wants out unless he's the starter and this whole "Darnold winning the backup spot" is PR management.

Either way, would you prefer this or a Matt Corral, Desmond Ridder, Kyle Trask or some such in the 2nd/3rd? Or a Jordan Love or Will Levis in the 1st?

A gamble like this is about as good as it's going to get unless we're in a position to move up significantly in the 1st, or just flat out suck one year and end up in the top 5-10.

since you're good with disparaging nicknames, I submit "black Drew Henson"
Not the same either.

Again this is unique. I get how this is like the monolith with the apes.

I am scared too. But we can all get through this together.

1) It is not a threat to Dak Prescott. Don't listen to Stephen A. Scott, Bayless, Sharpe or whomever. This is not a big deal.

2) This is a shot in the dark at a QB. We don't need one, despite what errbody says.

Drew Henson cost us a third back in the day.

At the end if it all, it is a Fehoko, Jake Ferguson (not fair, we stole that bitch), Jabril Cox, Josh Ball, Reggie Robinson, Biadasz or maybe even Pollard.

And a round sooner than prized gems like Golston, Nahshon Wright and Gallimore.

It is but it's not enough to piss me off. A 3rd would've pissed me off.
My son asked if I thought this was a possibility a day or two ago and I told him I wouldn’t go above a fifth. Of course we have our fifth for Eric Scott.

So watched the Lance plays against the Broncos. He is capable of making some great throws. He had a couple good ones and led the 49ers to the comeback win. He also looks like a really good runner. Not designed stuff but the protection sucked and he was great at scrambling.

Now for the bad. He just never really seemed like he was in a rhythm as a passer. He was constantly scrambling instead of making quick and decisive throws. He can scramble and make some killer throws but it felt like a lot of freelancing. He also threw a pick on a screen that wasn't great. Sometimes as a QB you have to just give up on a screen that is sniffed out. He didn't do that.

Overall his mobility looks pretty stellar and he can make some impressive throws. But he needs work on getting the ball out of his hands quickly and just being decisive with his throws.
