Of course they won't.
Glad you understand that reality.

Now prove you are actually sincere about the issue of saving people and get behind something bipartisan.

There's too much money tied into it and with the money it pumps into politics. But that doesn't change that it's the right course of action.
It's never the right course of action to eliminate people's rights to pass a law that won't have a positive measurable effect.

I think it boils down to what kind of country you want to live in.

Was it Australia where we saw military and police going door to door with weapons because people weren’t wearing masks inside their homes?

As we sit here with the rights we have, the US would never dream of pulling a stunt like that. They don’t want Waco times a million.

If you’re in favor of gun confiscation, you have way too much faith in a government that attempts to prove to you daily that you can’t trust them.

That's where we disagree. It would have a positive measurable effect and just cause it's been a right until now doesn't mean that can't change tomorrow. People used to have the right to drive a motorcycle without a helmet. Now they don't. Just cause one rule was put in place 200 years earlier doesn't make it immune to change.

So the fact that we let this situation escalate to the point it has is the reason to not do anything about it? Makes sense.
You think exercising rights is a form of escalation?

What other rights are out of hand?

The reality is that the gun-free nation envisioned by lunatics like Prodigal Son is an impossibility not worth discussing. First of all, no, local police are not going to be able to find most or even hardly any of the hidden guns that owners don't voluntarily turn over, because, yeah, that thing he mentioned early about unlawful searches and seizures.

Handgun ownership rights at the very least are irrevocably and permanently enshrined under the Constitution per DC v Heller. The logic of WHY this is an invaluable right, I don't need to go into here, other than, suffice to say, Justice Scalia is so much smarter than all of us that it makes Prodigal Son's arguments here laughable. He's wrong.

If handguns aren't going anywhere, then the banning of the import and manufacture of ARs is pointless. It doesn't help, it merely further and unneccessarily restricts our rights and our protections.

Move on. Total bans aren't happening. If they do, the Supreme Court under Heller will reverse them.

Focus on really protecting people. There are ways.

If you don't, you are just a lying hypocrite who wants the government to be able to oppress and subjugate us, and you don't give a damn about protecting people.

You can disagree, but you're wrong.

It would have a positive measurable effect
Banning ARs would have no statistical effect at all.

And would be quickly reversed.

and just cause it's been a right until now doesn't mean that can't change tomorrow. People used to have the right to drive a motorcycle without a helmet.
Interestingly enough, driving a motorcycle without a helmet was never one of the bill of rights.

I knew it was just a matter of time before the amateur hour lawyerings came out.

Just cause one rule was put in place 200 years earlier doesn't make it immune to change.
No, there's a way to do it, and it will never pass.

Do something more constructive with your time if you care about people.

But I doubt you do. You just care about stealing our rights.

Exactly the example I thought of earlier with Covid. Australia and New Zealand were embarrassments.

What I learned during Covid was how many people, even Americans, don't care about or want personal liberty. They want "protection."

They don't fear a totalitarian state, they crave it.

What's your plan to do that? I hear people say this all the damn time and they never have a solution. And, I can tell you, the solution isn't taking guns, unless you want another civil war.
Don’t worry, the gubment isn’t sophisticated enough to get to taking your guns.

We know we have a lot of crime in this country. A lot of that crime is committed with guns. A lot of bad people have guns.

We had a thought, if we could get all of you good people with good intentions to just hand over your guns, we think the bad guys would do the same.

We won’t know unless we try. If it doesn’t work out, hey, at least we tried.

I would think it starts with a turn in program first (ridiculous to some, but works to a certain degree) followed by a coordinated effort with local, state and federal (if needed) law enforcement to collect what's left. If they are truly serious about this kind of reform, then the government will take it seriously to remove them. You'll have some yahoos who threaten anyone who comes on their property (Cotton) and they would eventually be overpowered by force if needed. My guess after a handful of those situations ending poorly for the gun owner, most people will be compliant.

Hello, Mr. Drug Dealer. I’m from the government and we are here to confiscate all of your guns. Oh, no sir. We don’t need your help with loading them up. We’ve got this. Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation. Have a nice day, sir.

It just might work.
