They're playing with fire if the plan is to start Tyron-Tyler-Biadasz-Martin-Steele with Peters as the only backup plan if Tyron and/or Steele miss time.
I'm afraid that's their plan, too. Tyron is too much a made guy to let go. I wouldn't doubt that they'll go for some scrap heap, third week of FA guard as a backup plan after McGovern goes. Which has trouble written all over it to me because Tyron will get hurt again. It's just a matter of when.

The smart move would be to make Tyron take a slight pay cut and use the savings to re-sign McGovern, then you can ignore the OL and feel great about your depth there.

One hundred percent.

We have enough other needs that will be tough enough to meet as it is.

I realize that you can't be 8-deep on the OL but all they have to do is re-sign McGovern for probably like $4-5M/year and you're set both now and into the future on the left side. Instead we might be able to count on Tyron/Peters for another year and then we'll have to address LG in 2024.

I also 1000000% expect them to take Robinson if he's the only 1st round grade left on their board.

I'm hoping Farniok is at least at a serviceable level by now.

He was ok as a spot starter last year although he has to improve if you want to count on him to start like 10 games or something.

Yeah, I think everyone knows my feelings on Tyron. I just can't trust him to play 8 games. When I talk about Farniok I'm really just hoping for that superbackup interior guy who can play center and guard when needed but not be your real starter. The problem with Tyron Smith is that it isn't a matter of if he will get hurt, it's a matter of when. I'd rather just save the money and make plans to not have him. Maybe that means we can go out in free agency (We won't) and sign a legit upgrade at guard.

Why?

Tyron could implode at any moment and we already know McGovern is a solid starter who can comfortably take care of LG years into the future. I don't want to overpay but if he's willing to take 3/15, sign me up.

Yeah I don't hate McGovern. I think he gets underrated a bit. Sure, not the guy you want as your best O-lineman but certainly isn't holding you back as a starter either.

I’m for keeping Mongo around.

Because you don't pay replacement level players.

I don't hate him, I just think he's not hard to replace cheaper.

I mean you do pay replacement level players. It's just what you pay them. A replacement level O-lineman still has a cost. But you don't pay a replacement level O-lineman 8 mil a season either. But unless you can draft a better replacement there is just sort of a cost to anyone you sign who is capable of starting in the NFL.
