That we didn't pass on Moehrig like we passed on Jefferson. That should've been obvious.
It should've been but the idea is so damn it didn't cross my mind.

I'm blaming the Sturm play mostly on Lewis. If he stays outside he turns the ball back to the inside where the help from LVE is. By getting turned inside the LB doesn't have time to get over the top to the outside. (Although it would still be nice if his reaction time and speed were better.)

Diggs does get blown out but least he keeps outside leverage.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Why would he call Kearse's attention to a gap that's obviously not Kearse's responsibility?
Because LVE was trying to get someone to occupy that gap... if you watch just as the ball is snapped, if LVE doesn't take that inside step, there was going to be a wide open gap in the middle of the defense. LVE was in a no win situation.. he either goes to cover the gap and forces the RB outside, or hesitates (waiting to see which way the RB is heading) and risks getting blocked to the outside and gives up a big run up the middle.

The Cowboys had 2 Cowboys land on an ESPN list of the top DBs at 25 different skills.

Best ball hawk (CB)
i
Trevon Diggs, Dallas Cowboys
With natural ball skills and the playmaking instincts to locate and finish, Diggs had produced ridiculous numbers this season. He has an NFL-best 10 interceptions -- and 19 pass breakups -- for a Dallas defense that has completely changed its coverage profile under new coordinator Dan Quinn.

With more split-safety schemes and a league-leading 268 snaps of single-high man coverage, Diggs is being put in a position to match wide receivers or lie in the weeds as a zone defender. Want to see an example? Check out this clip of Diggs stealing one and making a house call in a matchup against Eagles rookie wideout DeVonta Smith.

Best tight end matchup safety
i
Jayron Kearse, Dallas Cowboys
At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, Kearse draws the tight end matchups in the Cowboys' man-heavy defensive scheme. He's a long safety with the coverage chops to compete and body up to tight ends. And Kearse has been productive with two interceptions and nine pass breakups. He has been a nice surprise for Dallas, which signed him to a cheap, one-year deal over the offseason.

It doesn't look at all like that to me.

Kearse is going to be key for us in the playoffs against potentially guys like Kittle and Gronk.
If we happen to run into Tampa in the playoffs I think we'll fair a lot better vs Gronk this time around.

He had the benefit of being well rested and injury free for that first game. Whereas this time around he'll be nursing injuries and the legs will be heavier coming off a 17 game season.

Our defense was still figuring shit out back then. It's a totally different defense today.

Believe this just about seals it for both Martin and Smith making the HOF. Might take a while if neither make another Pro Bowl or All-Pro team, but each are on the 2010 All-Decade team and are now solidly past 5 Pro Bowls with a handful of All-Pro's each.

You're right about that.

One example......according to pro football reference, Jayron Kearse only played 62% of the defensive plays in week 1. He's played at least 93% of the snaps in all the other games except for the blowout vs Atlanta.

That's a pretty clear indicator they were still trying to figure out what they had with their personnel.

Yeah Kearse has become an excellent player for us. I don't think we fully realized his skills right away.

The FA safety class next year is extremely strong so I think we should be able to bring back any (or all) of Kearse/Kazee/Hooker very cheap.

Like 3-4/year for Kearse and 1-2/year for Kazee and Hooker.
What do you think about TE?

We'd all prefer to bring Schultz back, but there's a very decent chance he's priced himself out.
