Claiborne Benched In Favor Of Scandrick

Dropping him to 4th CB is not a complete benching. In fact he'd still get plenty of playing time.

Not in this defense. We use LBers as much as extra CBs in coverage because we lack a DB-heavy dime package. We have only been carrying four guys until recently, but I don't think Webb has seen a lot of action.

Let's see how long it takes for Jerry to swoop down and reverse Garrett on this.

Probably won't happen. Both he and Goof Son have made similar comments about Claiborne over the last couple of days.

That reminds me why I am not all oohing and ahhing at Garrett putting his stamp on this team.

Cowboys demanding accountability by taking players off the field; three starters have been replaced

The Cowboys have not been afraid to make lineup changes this season in an effort to but the best players on the field and demand accountability.

It started in the preseason when Cowboys coach Jason Garrett benched running back DeMarco Murray for a half after a fumble. The first four games have seen three difference players replaced in the starting lineup _ cornerback Morris Claiborne by Orlando Scandrick, safety Will Allen by J.J. Wilcox and guard Mackenzy Bernadeau by Brian Waters.

And last Sunday against the Chargers, linebacker Bruce Carter was benched in the second half after giving up two touchdown passes in pass coverage and losing confidence.

“I think we’ve always strived to make everybody feel accountable for what they’re doing around here and oftentimes competition allows you to do that better as a football coach and as a football staff,” Garrett said. “You look at the guys you have available to you and you make your best decision for your football team. And if you have guys who are competing for a spot and you can put the next guy in and he can be as good and maybe better than the guy who’s playing right now, you are more willing and able to do that. Hopefully the competition will bring out the best in both of those players who are competing for that spot and they’ll get better and you’ll consequently get better as a team.”

Didn't take the shill long to turn on Claiborne.

Only because Jerry & Stephen lead the way.

I don't know what Claiborne's deal is, he just seems low on confidence and mentally soft.

You guys all said this is what you wanted. Remember back in Wade's day how it was a running joke that it was too comfortable, too much of a family atmosphere, that no veteran would ever lose his job?

Now it's happening quite a bit but no one wants to talk about it.

Don't recall anyone wanting our top pick that we gave up a 1st and 2nd rounder to be a bust. But yeah, kudos to the staff/front office for benching a player playing poorly.

Can we sucker a team like the Browns did for Richardson?

Yeah it's a good thing. Now it's up to the 2nd stringers to prove they belong.

He was more hurt than he let on in the opener and then he got sloppy and even more hurt. This is a bad stretch, but he wasn't a bust as a rookie and a bad start doesn't suddenly make him one either. He may never be worth two high picks, but there's a good player under the butt-hurt attitude.

Kind of agree. He'll never live up to that trade or be good enough to justify it. But I do think he's better than this. For right now, the right thing to do is bench him. He's horrendous at the moment. You can keep playing a guy like that.

The concerning thing is his mental state. He is starting to seem fragile. The best thing he can do is completely ignore his critics (who happen to have a good point; he's not playing nearly well enough) and just work to get better.

I'm just saying, next time someone says "But Garrett isn't any different than Wade," maybe we should have a little perspective.

FWIW, I have yet to claim Garrett is a great coach. Every single one of these arguments stems from someone saying he is a BAD coach or about how he's doing something awful or how he never does anything good.
This is BRAND NEW behavior from Garrett. Don't pretend he's been doing this all along. He wouldn't bench Leonard Davis or Marion Barber when they were sucking it up on the field. I applaud this move and moves like it. I think he's doing the right thing, but this is the first season in which he's had the balls to do it.

Maybe it's that he's finally the walk-around coach.

I don't care why he is not starting, who said what about it, I am just glad he is being benched...although the way Denver plays he will be on the field all day.
