Watkins: Cowboys back in developing a quarterback stage

Developing QB stage

gtfo

I think he's shown so far this year that he can hang in the pocket and make the right reads and throws.

You mean like turning away from pressure while he's throwing a duck that lands magically in his 6'10" receiver's hands?

That only works for Eli Manning. In the rest of the NFL this strategy is no bueno.

Manziel is not a pro quarterback. I mean, the Tim Tebow fiasco just happened. It would be Oakland-stupid to burn a 1st round pick on Manziel.

How is Russell Wilson that much different than Manziel. People don't like Manziel so they say he will suck, but I think he will be a very successful NFL QB.

On the field there isn't that much of a difference. However, if Manziel had Wilson's maturity, poise, leadership abilities and work ethic he'd be a surefire top 3 pick.

Manziel is nothing like Tebow...so there is that.

Not a fan of him by any means, but to compare him to Tebow is asinine.

I didn't take Ravi's comment that he was comparing Manzeil to Tebow as a player rather the circumstance that Tebow wasn't' NFL QB materiel. I agree with that position.

One lacks talent, one lacks maturity...so again it was a poor comparison.

The Manziel take by this board is meaningless. I'd take him, but it doesn't matter. We need a true leader that can make all the reads and throws.

Isn't there a lot of college QB's that can do that?

Umm no. If there were, there would be a lot of high end QB prospects in the draft. Most of these guys come from systems that are only asked to make the most basic read and then get the ball out. Then they get to a pro style offense and everything is much more difficult.

I knew you would fight dirty when Tebow was dissed.

One huge difference: Wilson was reading defenses both at NC State and Wisconsin. He was making pre-snap reads and calling audibles. Bonehead merely relies on his athletic ability to get by. He doesn't read coverages.

Manzeil comes across like an undisciplined sandlot street player.

There is no way Manziel and Tebow should be compared in any way. Manziel can throw the ball, and has nice accuracy. Tebow, not so much.

They are similar in other ways in that they were/are highly productive and ridiculously popular college players who aren't suited to pro offenses. Tebow had no business being drafted in the 1st round no matter how productive he was in college.

Someone is going to draft Manziel, but it should not be in the 1st round.
