During my short stint in Lubbock (55 years ago), I found the folks to be quite hospitible.
 
People here on the coast of NC are pretty nice. I live in an area highly populated by young Marines, and a lot of them are douchebags. But the locals are cool.
 
Funny story about a Marine that I met the other night -

At football practice another kid's parent was asking me how my leg healed up and all. Another parent overheard our conversation and asked what happened. While I was in the middle of my story one of the coaches, that is a Marine, walked up and was like, yeah, I know a little bit about that. He jerked up his pant leg and started over talking me about his war injuries. He was trying so hard to one up me and get attention. What's up with that? Weird.
 
Another thing I noticed since I live near a ton of military bases is that there is a particular segment of the veteran population that feels like everyone owes them. I mean, yes we do but shouldn't that be for everyone else to say?

It is easy to sniff out though. Some of these cats are leeches. I feel dirty saying that, but I have a hard time with any group that feels entitled to stuff and demands that everyone serve them. Am I a jerk for thinking this? I'm down for honoring and helping soldiers all that we can. I would even like for them to be helped much more. The issue is with the attitude of gimme.

You don't have to look away from me, because they totally are.

Specifically the young ones. They think they are bullet proof and are unbearable to be around. I was never like that, thank teh gods.

That's not because he's a Marine... that's because he's a doucher in general. I hate one-uppers.
