I Just Realized, I Don't Know Any Bengals Fans

I got to thinking about fans of other teams. I generally enjoy banter with my friends leading up to the games. I realized I know no Bengals fans. It got me to thinking. Are they any other teams? So, I decided to do a quick list of just at least one fan that I shoot the crap with, and see if there are teams other than the Bengals where I do not even know a single fan. If you want to join in and share yours, go ahead. If not this is just me indulging my own madness. By the way, this is alphabetical by city. Just the stupid way my head works on things like this. I added a last initial if more than one guy had a same or similar name. Again, my madness.

I legitimately know fans of all NFL teams but that's because I'm in the military and move around a lot. Plus the military is made up of people from all over. So I have an unfair advantage of posers like Ace and Hos.
 
But I will say this, I have yet to run into a single one of them who speaks highly of Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. And they certainly aren't envious of our 20+ year old trophies.

Years ago, in the 90's Super Bowl era to be exact, I took a job at a sports store for the Christmas holidays. I ended up really liking it and worked there for a couple of years in the evenings while I was going to college during the day. It was called the Pro Image, and everything in the store was related to sports teams.

Across the hall in the Park Place Mall was a women's clothing store called Judy's. You're probably wondering why I bring this up in a football related thread. It has to do with a nickname I applied to a young girl that worked there. Her name was Jill, and she was 16 years old. She also may have been the most attractive female I have ever seen. The 3 single guys whom I worked with were all quite smitten with her. I can understand that. She was truly lovely.

Since I was already married, and going to college at the time, I worked a lot of evening shifts. Since she was in High School, so did she. This caused Marc, Chris, Andy, and Jason to sometimes hang around even when they were not on the clock. It amused me, and I ended up giving Jill a nickname. I called her "The View."

Chris was the Assistant Manager of the store and he often would call at the end of the night to ask how business had been. He would always start by asking what was going on. I often replied, "Not much, just enjoying The View." This answer from me often drew an "oh man" from him followed by him asking what she was wearing. She dressed quite nicely.

That nickname brings me to the title of this thread; "The Difference."

That is my new nickname for Ezekiel Elliott. He is "The Difference."

I don't say this to in any way demean the incredible job being done by Dak Prescott. But to my mind there is absolutely no way anyone can deny what a difference maker Zeke Elliott is and why he was our pick at #4 despite there being capable RBs all through this Draft according to the experts. One question, who of the rookies is 2nd to EE in rushing? I don't know, and truthfully I don't care. I am just glad that Ezekiel is making the difference on our team.

When 2014 was over and we lost DeMarco Murray, I was sick to my stomach. I knew the plan was to acquire Adrian Peterson on waivers, and improve at RB. Then AD did the dumbest thing I think he could have, he caved. To my dying say I will maintain that AD behind this OL would have made a huge difference in the outcome of 2015, even with Weeden, Cassel, and Moore pulling the trigger.

I want to emphasize for the record, that Dak Prescott is miles better than those 3 QBs. However, to me the difference between 2014, 2015, and now 2016 is obvious.

2014 we were a fantastic team. We weren't missing Tony or Dez. I don't think anyone can deny that our running game carried us to the 12-4 record and right to the cusp of going back to the Super Bowl if the referees knew what a catch was. Yeah, I know some people think we would have lost that game any way. I used to think that too. Now, I am not so sure we would have. Our running game was the key to winning.

2015 was my least favorite season ever. Three things punctuate why. The poor record of course does. The injuries to key players is in that discussion. The key to me though was loss of identity.

I will always maintain losing Tony and Dez played a huge role in that debacle. For me the often overlooked aspect was that we didn't just lose Dez and Tony, we also lost Murray, and those 3 were clearly the 3 best offensive players for us in 2014. I have enjoyed called him Demarius Murphy, and I enjoyed his struggles in Philly more than anyone should. But make no mistake about it, his loss by this team added losses to the wrong column on the standings page.

That is what I mean by loss of identity. In 2014 we knew who we were. A running team who was going to run over you, control the clock, and win. If you stopped Murray, no problem, Tony and company were going to make you pay. I make no bones about wanting Peterson. I make no bones about my disdain for McFadden and his running style. I know it has rubbed some people the wrong way, and I know the incessant calls for AD surely did. I know my complete disdain for Barry Sanders does.

Our identity is back. We're still missing Tony and Dez, but our identity is back. Ezekiel Elliott is The Difference. Once again we run with a purpose and with bad intentions for the other team. That is the way Emmitt did it. That is the way Zeke is doing it. It makes all the difference.

Dak has been a huge part of this turn back around. No doubt it. However, I don't think we'd be 4-1 with McFadden and Dak. I know we would not have been 4-12 last year with AD instead of McFadden.

People can look at his 1100+ yards, and the general lack of 1000 yard rushers in the NFL in 2015 all they want. If you can't see that 2014 propelled us out of 8-8 what were you watching? There is a reason why we have gone heavy OL in the first round when we never have Historically done that. It was because we needed an infusion of identity. We had a team that fought. We had an aging QB. There was the Heisman hyped Johnny Football, and we passed. Took the OG instead and never looked back.

Did we need a backup QB behind Tony to groom? Yes. Yet we passed on the one guy everyone thought we had to have, and we won. Because we ran the ball so effectively behind these monsters.

The monsters were here in 2015. We even added a monster in La'El Collins. We lost that monster for a while and even lost our monster LT for a game. It didn't even slow us down. Why not? Because we have our identity back.

We've heard that someone's grandma could gain 1000 yards behind this OL. I forget who that was. We heard that Pacman's daughter could. We know McFadden did, but it didn't help us win. It is because of the way he runs. Too similar to Barry Sanders for my tastes. I want a guy who runs like Emmitt. I see the difference.

I am not going to lie, this Draft ripped my agendas apart. I made no bones about it, I don't like drafting a RB in round 1 any more. But I believe every time I defended taking EE over Ramsey in Mock Drafts I said he was the single player who could make the difference in getting us back tot eh Super Bowl. I read every thread pimping Derrick Henry, and I like Henry a lot. I wouldn't budge. I was against my own agenda in continually picking Elliott for us at 4. I kept doing it because I knew what a drop off we had from Murray to McFadden. I think McFadden is a great guy. I really do. I hope he never carries a ball for us again. I just don't like his business decision style of running and I think it contributes to losing.

Which brings me Alfred Morris for a second. I love him. Do I think we could be 4-1 with him featured if we hadn't drafted EE? Yes, I do. Wouldn't that make Dak the real difference? In some ways yes, but not in the way I am talking about. Dak doesn't define our identity as a football team. Running the football the way we do, does. Hence why Elliott is The Difference.

As much as I enjoyed "The View," and more correctly torturing 4 very horny young guys who were smitten with her, I am enjoying "The Difference" I see in our team even more.

I shared with you before that it was Emmitt Smith who pointed out EE to him at the College Bowl game they watched together. I began wanting EE from that moment. I didn't think there was any way on this earth we could get him, and I had that silly no RBs in round 1 agenda stuck in my head too. As I saw the team falter more and more despite the NFL's 4th leading rusher, I knew what we needed. I knew it was contrary to my own football opinions. Thank you Emmitt Smith. Not just for the years of fantastic footbal you exhibited for me, and all of us. Thank you for pointing out to Jason Garrett the difference maker we needed on this football team knowing we were going to lose Murray.
