All I know is that if I was in the military and someone else received more pay for the exact same work I'd be pissed. I hear you about the moving, but there are many members of the military who that doesn't apply to. Who still get paid more but work in one location.

I was beyond pissed. As you may have guessed from my long catalog of slights listed above. I was incredibly bitter through most of my enlistment. Not just because of that, but if I had been treated more like my married counterparts, it would have been a considerable improvement in my quality of life.

Thankfully the civilian sector has been much kinder to me. I'm buying a house right now, and thanks to not being married, I don't have to include my girlfriend on any of my applications. My credit is pristine. Hers not so much. If I had been married, it wouldn't matter if I was the only one paying the mortgage (we keep our finances separate)

That damn certificate means her financial history is tied to mine.

Not necessarily either. My old paralegal was married to a man in the military. He works in an office on a computer in a single city. Now tell me how moving in with his wife made life more expensive? One less house. One less cable bill. One less power bill. One less water bill. All that I can see are expenses going down. Why are the expenses going up?

I was comparing single versus married in the military. Single men get their housing and meals furnished as well as being in close proximity to work . Married military doesnt have this option for the most part and have to rent or buy housing and foo also commute to the job. Thats the way it is for the most part. If the post has military housing available then the housing allowance isn't paid. There are several scenarios but the allowances are adjusted in accordance to circumstance but overall the married military person will have costs the single one doesn't incurr and that's the difference in the overall pay.

Married military members get their housing and BAS as well... At least everyone I've ever heard of does. I've never seen a serviceman who didn't get either housing provided or BAH. And BAH goes up when you have dependents.

I'm not sure what you mean by this but if they live in base housing they don't get a housing allowance.unless something has changed. Not many military facilities have housing accomidations anymore.

I said they either get housing provided (base housing) OR BAH (housing allowance). I didn't say they get both. They get one or the other, but all of them get one or the other. And while I certainly haven't been to every military installation in the country or world, every one I've been to also had some type of housing, whether it's barracks or houses on the installation, or both.

Or get some sort of clue of who the bible was addressing, who it was written by and for as well as the context of any scripture that you quote. Christians and non-Christians make the same mistake of taking the bible out of context to prove a point. To someone who has a clue it is pretty laughable. /seriousskid

That's a nice way of saying military troops aren't asked to sleep on the street but can certainly be forced to deal with dehumanizing conditions as long as the military provides those conditions.
 
My boy is 6 months in and absolutely loves the army. Of course he is a positive kid who wakes up everyday being thankful for the opportunity.

The topic at hand as I recall is whether married military's cost is greater than single. My experience is that married is higher and as a result they get allowances to offset what is essentially furnished to the singles.
