Prospects Dallas Has Shown Interest In - 2015

We can't really afford to spend one of Romo's last season's on a redshirt for a running back that has a history of injuries

From rotoworld...

Washington LB Shaq Thompson is scheduled to visit the Cowboys, Vikings and Colts.

We previously blurbed a combination of visits and workouts and wanted to clarify which ones were in-house trips, since those matter more for some teams. "In the workouts, teams really just want to see how well I can move. I'm still young, so I have room to grow and get a little bit bigger. I'm 228 pounds and have been as heavy as 230," Thompson wrote. Evaluators both inside and outside the NFL have listed Thompson as a linebacker, safety and running back.

The more I look at him, the less I want him. And honestly I didn't want him much before.

I'm not a huge fan of Thompson either but I think he could be a seamless fit as a WLB in this defense. In general as a prospect, not thrilled, but I think he clearly has alot of the traits you look for in that position and if Marinelli thinks he can do it, I'm willing to give it a shot. We are also really good at evaluating LB's in general it seems so who knows.

Add Dupree and Yeldon to the list.

From Charean Williams...

Two running backs are among the first visitors to Valley Ranch for pre-draft visits with the Cowboys.

The team almost has filled its 30 allowed visits for national prospects, with the first group getting to town Monday night. Georgia running back Todd Gurley and Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon are among the first group scheduled to visit Valley Ranch.

Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon, Indiana’s Tevin Coleman, Boise State’s Jay Ajayi and Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah are other running backs scheduled to visit Valley Ranch, according to owner Jerry Jones.

UCLA inside linebacker Eric Kendricks, Kentucky defensive end Alvin Dupree, Washington outside linebacker Shaq Thompson, LSU defensive end Danielle Hunter, USC cornerback Josh Shaw and Arizona State free safety Damarious Randall also were scheduled to arrive to town Monday night.

The Cowboys also are expected to welcome Mississippi State linebacker Benardrick McKinney, Wake Forest linebacker Kevin Johnson and UCLA defensive end Owamagbe Odighizuwa, among others, in the coming days.

The team will host its annual Dallas Day for local prospects Friday. Players from local colleges, including TCU, as well as players who went to a DFW high school are allowed to workout for the Cowboys at Dallas Day.

Good, at least we're starting to bring in 1st round types on the DL.

I like this as well. I think we scheduled a lot of these visits before the Hardy signing though and I hope our team hasn't changed their minds a bit since. Honestly, I wouldn't let the Hardy signing impact my draft at all. If the best player on the board is a DE you take him.

I don't think the front office is that dumb anymore. 10 years ago? Maybe, but not now.

I think the structure of the Hardy contract shows that the braintrust knows it can't bank on him without contingency plans, so if we end up not taking a DE high I think it's just because we liked other prospects better, not because we think DE is solved by Hardy.

Well and I think similar things about LBer. Right now we have a lot of guys but that crowed could get thinned out quickly by injury prone players and guys who have a history of retiring.

Source: Bowling Green linebacker Gabe Martin visiting Cowboys today

Posted April 7, 2015

Bowling Green linebacker Gabe Martin is visiting the Dallas Cowboys today, according to a league source.

Martin was a team captain and a three-time all-conference selection.

He led the team with 115 tackles last season, including 18 for losses to lead the Mid-American Conference. He had a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, a blocked field goal and two interceptions.

Martin was an Academic all-conference selection.

As a junior, he was second-team All-Mid-American Conference pick despite missing seven games with a knee injury. He started seven games at the rover spot.

As a sophomore, he had 70 tackles, 8.5 for losses, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Martin is from Michigan where he was the 35th-ranked recruit by Rivals.

Never heard of this guy.

By my count, he's got visits with around 15 teams.

Only watched him a little. While he looks athletic, I don't think he's a guy that is the kind of FS we need but never seem to try to get.

I like him but my concern is that he will go higher than he should because of the lack of safety talent. I'd love to have him with our third round pick but I just don't know if he will still be there. The second seems too high.

Supposedly he is a "second round lock" per some pundits.

Sorry, I don't see it.

He reminds me a lot of Jaiquawn Jarrett a few years ago...massively overrated and ended up being a bust after being taken in the 2nd by the Eagles.

Lookit, I want a single high safety as bad as always, but not supporting forcing the issue.

Yea, the talent just isn't really there.

I'd rather go CB in the 2nd with someone like Darby or Rollins than Randall. I'd be fine with him in the 3rd though.

While I want to replace Wilcox and/or Church, that guy better be a sure thing.

This is one of the weaker safety groups in a while. No reason to force it even if he is the tallest midget.
