Coaching Staff Watch Thread...

I like that Jerry wants to give him $10M a year. Just means he's more likely to cut ties when the inevitable disappointment occurs.

I knew I should have quoted him. Fast editing sonofabitch.

@rapsheet
The #Cowboys and DC Rod Marinelli have reached an agreement on a contract for him to stay, source said. Big one for Dallas.

Very good news if true.

It's still very good news, asshole!

Feh.

He did a great job at disguise this year, but that still wasn't enough to get the job done. He needs talent and a lot of it.

Garrett's is being reported as 5 for 30.

So, you're admitting if he had more talent his defense would be even that much more betterer. It's a big deal no matter how much you want to downplay it.

Yea, but it sure as hell beats going with Eberflus.

Now we have to hope the Cowboys approach the D-line with the same mentality as they did with the O-line. If they do, I'm sure we'll field a solid defense next year.

Yes it is good news, but do you want to take the chance of Garrett taking back playcalling if we lose Linehan?

He did as good a job as anyone could expect with the group he had. What more can you ask? Of course he needs more talent. I've never bought into him being a miracle worker but he's a pretty good DC.

:lol

True.

But the point remains, he won't be able to duplicate what he did this year again. Unless they are serious about rebuilding the DL and to a lesser degree the secondary, it will not matter a whole lot.

He is not going to coach up crap forver, the scheme is too simple and not flexible enough to hide weaknesses for any length of time.

That's pretty standard for an HC on a 5 year deal.

He may not be the best coach in the world, but the team enjoyed it's best season since the 90's with him at the helm, so he deserves some credit for that.

I just hope that we continue to surround him with good assistants so he can continue to focus on the team management aspect full time.
