Not true. You need 2 KR so I'd put both Harris and Newsome there. This gives you the best return team, solid WR depth and the ability to cut Randle and keep Williams.

A win all around.
 
Randle is the KR2 in Madden. I replace him every time.

He's already 25, I doubt he's far from his ceiling. I'll pass.

My initial position was simply that as a receiver I prefer Newsome over Harris. Someone else brought up the special teams aspect. That was not in my stated preference of the two. I don't care who does special teams my position is the same as initially stated, as a receiver I prefer Newsome so, there is no need to compare all the fringe information.. If everyone likes Harris at special teams so be it but my preference of the two as receivers remains the same.

There is every reason to compare their ST skills...5th WRs are counted on there and Harris is better.

And while I like what Newsome did, I have seen enough football where 6th and 7th string WRs working against their DB equivalents in preseason are not going to pan out very often. There are dozens upon dozens of failures for every Victor Cruz type that comes out of nowhere.

For the record, I want to keep Newsome if possible. But I am not cutting Harris, who is our primary PR, KR and even covers kicks well.

booze please don't start reading my posts like Jiggy does. You are generally more on target. I didn't say I don't care about special teams I said I don't care who does special teams meaning I have no problems wit Harris in that role rather than trying to replace that position with Newsome. My comments have all been directed as a preference toward the receiver position. Special team issues were raised by someone else. In addition I didn't say I would cut Harris I said I would probably release Beasley to keep Newsome. I have gone back and review my comments on both threads to see exactly what I stated.

I don't understand your comment. Mine was all about putting the best team on the field. Not keeping him for his potential.

If you ignore the ST aspects of it though you are not looking at the full picture. You prefer him as a WR...got it, now how do you fit him on the roster?

The whole line of the discussion was whether we'd keep him or not. I wouldn't. He's flashed, sure. But against guys that will be bagging groceries in a couple weeks. He's already 25. I would not keep him over guys that have already proven they can do their jobs against NFL defenses.

I wouldn't even consider keeping him for a second over Harris. Or Street. I might hesitate a second and think about it when Beasley's name is brought up... But nope, still wouldn't. Again, he's 25 and only done it against camp fodder. Beasley is small, but has shown utility. If I'm replacing him, I'm doing it with a younger, better player.

And as long as Harris is healthy, he wouldn't get return time either. Regardless of whether or not two guys are back on the KR team. Even if they kick away, the 'other' guy is primarily a blocker. Your primary KR gets underneath the vast majority of kickoffs.

If we were going to keep 6 WR, then I'd consider him. But again, he'd spend most if not all of his time on the inactive list as he wouldn't get WR time over the 5 above him. And his age comes in to play here again. I'd maybe consider stashing a young talented WR here if I was afraid of losing him. But not a 25 year old that is already up against his ceiling.

It's not like the guy will ever be a starter here in Dallas given the age and talent level of our current starters. You're basically looking at him as a career backup WR in Dallas with no special teams ability. I honestly don't see the upside. I guess you could argue if we have a bunch of injuries at WR you'd prefer him starting on the outside over Harris but that is really the only argument here.

Right, cause the guy is not gonna make it as a pure receiver. So it comes down to his multi functional capabilities, which is what guys like Harris and Dunbar offer. Neither is a starter on offense, but second team/reserves that excel on ST's. Thats their value prop. Surely we can agree on that.

IRVING — Dwayne Harris has returned only one punt this preseason and no kickoffs. But one of the league’s best specialists isn’t concerned about his lack of work in the Cowboys’ two exhibition games, vowing to be ready for Week 1.

“I get enough return reps in practice,” he said.

Harris added that he didn’t know if he would get more opportunities Saturday against Miami, which will be the preseason finale for most Cowboys veterans.

“If not, we’ll just wait until San Fran,” he said.

In 2013, Harris was the only player in the NFL to finish in the top five in both kick and punt return average. This year, he believes the success he experienced can be duplicated. But nothing is certain in special teams, units that undergo major personnel changes from one season to the next because they are comprised of bottom-of-the-roster players.

“It’s definitely hard because you don’t know what the mindset is those guys are bringing into the return game or into the special teams units,” Harris said. “You’ve just got to get those guys on the same page as everybody else. Once you get that going, I think everybody works the same way and the wheels turn at the same pace…We’re definitely going to take the momentum last year and continue to build on that.”

I have no problem with anyone disagreeing. I do get agitated when people misstate my posts or pull things out of the air intentionally just to try to make a point of something I didn't say.
 
WTF? There is NO WAY I'd cut Dez so we could keep Newsome.

You did state, "there is no need to compare all the fringe information.."

I think some took the stance that in roster evaluation, you have to compare all the fringe information.

Maybe so but it was directed at Jiggy who was trying to add things into my statements I didn't say. I wasn't directing my position to anything but the two players as receiver preference and he was bringing up areas I hadn't even addressed nor had stated a position about.
