Dallas Interested In Peppers

The year John Abraham had on a two year deal is a standard.

The theory you don't want to pay age. Actually is you do not want long term contracts with aged players.

It would be hard to get both Melton and Peppers for Dallas, but one of them should be do-able. If Dallas can't get Melton, then the priority shifts to Aaron Donald in 2014 and future RDE in 2015.

If we don't get Melton then I think we absolutely have to consider a trade up to secure Donald. I just can't see this defense working without an elite penetrating DT. Donald is such a unique player that you don't see every year. I'd say you just have to go out and make sure you get him.

I'd be more than fine giving Peppers a deal like what Abraham got, just as I would've been fine giving that to Ware.

Ware wouldn't have taken it.

You have to understand, Abraham didn't sign that contract until July, so he might have been a little desperate.

Yeah, give him a reasonable contract and I'm fine with this signing.

How awesome is it that just at the point when we are on the verge of having a good offensive line, the defensive line falls apart? If only we were capable of fixing multiple areas at the same time

Its beginning to look a lot like the Marinelli ChatLine.

I dislike trading up for a guy just because he fits the scheme, but I'd have to agree that the entire Kiffen-schooled coaching tree is probably eyeing Donald regardless of where they are drafting.

That tends to happen when you don't draft either position for years at a time. It took 6 years to seriously draft any DL after they took Hatcher in 2006, and even that was just a 3rd rounder in Crawford-- and he got seriously injured. They then let their best home grown prospects in Canty and Bowen go while keeping the worst in Spears and a stopgap in Olshansky.

To cap it off, they kept overpaying and overplaying Ware and Ratliff until both finally broke.

You can't easily recover from that kind of willful neglect.

Get Peppers, Melton, and a couple draft pick and the DL is looking fine by me.

Sure. The only issue is, it will probably take another damn restructure to get both guys.

I think if we just get Melton the draft will yield some good pass rush prospects.

Line up for the booby prize if you are shocked.

Melton is the key for me...given his age and how players bounce back from ACLs I'd be good to sink some coin into him.

As an aside...wonder if Durant and his salary are still a way to get more flexibility.

Yeah, I've been wondering why Durant is still on the team. He lost his starting job to Wilber and he should be lower on the depth chart than Holloman.

I forgot about Durant. Same with Parnell. That could be enough.

It's a shame that Ware's brilliant career in Dallas did jack and shit to build a dynasty defense. It was funny to hear Jerry say that Ware was a "cornerstone" player...if they would have got a fat NT on the line and moved Ratliff to DE and addressed the obvious FAIL of the O-line, we could all be Jerry homers. Parcells totally folded when TO showed up, but had the team on the up & up. That was Jerry's last chance to show that he could do it on his own.

Oh well.

Next: Melton signs with Seattle, 3 years, 14 million... Too rich for us!!

Die, Jerry.
