Still not sure we shouldn't be in sell mode... :tippytoe

I just hate trading away all our picks.
Phuck

Looking back on it, the rest of the team truly relied on Parsons to the degree where it's really amazing he was never extended

He's a rare EDGE who doesn't need supporting interior play to succeed

I mean you have Nolan being all-timer terrible, then Quinn arrives with Parsons and the defense becomes average and at times above average, then the moment Parsons leaves we go back to all-timer terrible under Flus and Parker.

The DC doesn't matter, it's always been about the talent.

Quinnen has show flashes of what he was in New York, but it's clear he takes plays off and there's almost no one else but an aging Clark to pick up the slack.

Gary and Ezeiruaku should be the leaders of this defense enabled by great DT play. But the DT play has been inconsistent and these two DE's have been complete non-factors on top of it. Overshown can't stay on the field, and has lost a step on top.

IOW, the whole front, except Barham, is ASS.

The secondary outside of Porter isn't any better, that is when they are on the field.

I say bench Gary and go all in on Malachi, even though it risks throwing him to the wolves. Ez and Malachi are our only hope, and Ez sucks so far.

It's not the talent, go look at Minnesota's depth chart if you think it's about talent.

The talent definitely isn't great but it's not historically bad by any means, which is basically what this defense has been for part of 2024, all of 2025, and now part of 2026.

Execution, those guys know what they are doing. They also don't have obviously broken players like Bland on the field.

Yeah, that's true. The coaching has been atrocious. Hard to judge these guys too harshly quite yet.

And even this dim brain trust knows it. That's why Pettine is here.

I don't care anymore.

I'm tired of seeing how many of our guys don't pan out, and given the way this organization does things, does it really matter?

When we hire a real coach and start operating like a real organization, that's when I'll start to care about saving or wasting our picks.

Outside of anything egregious, I don't care if we trade picks if it returns a proven productive player.

So if we can get Sweat for a 3rd? Do it.

Like Gary? Or Kenneth Murray, or Kair Elam, or Broderick Jones... :unsure

That's why I said "proven productive player".

Only Gary comes relatively close to meeting that criteria.

Those other 3 are total bums that never should have been acquired.

For a trade of future draft capital to mean anything it's got to result in a productive player.

George Pickens, Joey Porter-- CHECK, though short lived trades

Quinnen Williams-- JURY's OUT, but not looking worth a #1 and #2. At age 28, talent will only decline. This can turn around, but maybe he needs, oh I don't know, ANY HELP AT ALL

Kenny Clark -- MEH, love the guy, but he's way past his prime

Gary, Jones, Dee Winters-- BUSTS

Winters literally played like 90% of the snaps on a top 10-15 defense last year, he's kind of the perfect example of it being about the coaching more than the talent.
They also had a better degree of talent around Winters. Essentially we traded for a journeyman piece of a very strong unit and placed him onto a unit of other journeymen.

And clearly we're not well coached, but at one point Nolan was a good coach and he ended up failing spectacularly in Dallas with no talent.

Parker has four pieces that show promise: Porter, Barham, Lawrence, and Downs. He's got another potential lynchpin in Williams who isn't playing as well as he should and maybe another in Overshown who now might be washed from all the injuries.

He's got a solid performers in Clark , Hooker, and Durant-- when healthy.

The rest are damaging the brand, average or below

That's where I go to.

Elam and Murray were terrible at their old stops too, so that's just who they are.

But Winters and Gary have been good players elsewhere. I'm not convinced they both suddenly suck. That's when I suspect better coaching would help them.

I think Gary fell off the cliff mid-season last year. Production basically stopped at game 7 and there some kind of watch going on as to how long its been since he had a sack or TFL.

Not sure what happened but it seems that he is just going through the motions now.

If you are a cog in a well-oiled, highly productive machine, you are still just a cog. When you are transposed into another machine, you don't necessarily make the new one better.

Winters and Gary aren't guys who elevate others, hold them accountable, or lead through difference-making production. They were cogs in a wheel

They have each been transplanted from a Ferrari into a Fiat.

SF didn't have that much talent last year, Bosa and Warner were both out most of the year. I'd argue that we have at least as much, if not more talent right now.

They were starting rookies and UDFA types for large chunks of the year.
