2026 Season | Week 5 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Bucs @ Cowboys | 10/08/2026

Can anyone give me one good reason to keep watching the rest of this season?

Habit? Some sense of loyalty to your past?

It sure as shit isn't entertainment any more than watching an airplane crash is entertainment.

There is literally no reason to have hope for anything beyond tripping into winning a bullshit division at 9-8 and losing in the first round, probably in similar fashion as tonight.

Annoying all the yokels in here talking about tennis is about the only thing I can imagine would bring me joy for the rest of the season.

For the record, I agree with whoever said we should hire a defensive oriented HC and roll the dice at OC.

Flores is an obvious choice but Campanile in Jacksonville has quietly put together a very solid defense with very average talent.

But that conversation will have to wait until about 2028 when Jerry doesn't have to worry about paying this complete fucking moron nepo baby $4.5M to fuck off.

Let's all ignore the fact that Jerry probably makes $4.5M every time the S&P jumps by half a percent.

The Dobbs game? Didn't we win that?

Signed 8 days prior, we beat Josh Dobbs making his career first start as a Titan 2022. The next season 2023, Josh Dobbs earned his first career victory as an Arizona Cardinal and Cowboys were ~11point favorites.

Again, adjusting for Jerry's Hall of Mirrors reality, the best we could hope for is probably Zimmer, who at least would chew ass and not constantly hand out tissues and juice boxes in hopes the players like him.

But he was so disgusted when he left last time, he probably wouldn't answer the phone even if Jerry called him.

I'd really love for someone to tell me exactly why Schottenheimer is better than Garrett, beyond the fact that we had to watch Garrett about 7 years longer than we should have.

Just purely in terms of quality as a HC, why is Schottenheimer better?

We had horrific defenses early on under Garrett also, went 8-8 three straight years, and we seem to be on roughly the same path right now. 7-9-1 last year, 8-9 or 9-8 this year, do we think we'll somehow jump to 12-5 next year?

Puppet HC, childish game management, big moments where you can tell their brains stop working, consistently lacking in the finer points of the game that top HC's obsess over, meager results with top offensive talent, led the league in penalties last year, so on and so forth.

Sure, Garrett was a smarmy backstabber, but Schottenheimer clearly schmoozed his way into the job as well during the interview process last year. Schmoozing isn't as bad as tanking the previous HC but being an asshole isn't part of judging a HC's quality.

I think you could give Schottenheimer 10 years and he'd never once sniff being the 1 seed in the conference like 2016.

Garrett was arguably the worst HC in this team's history, never should've lasted past 2-3 years and I hated him as much as anyone, but we're 22 games into Schottenheimer's regime and I can't see how anybody could think he's any better.

Fucking STOP

It’s a chance to win the game with an extra point at best and at worst a 2-pt try to tie, with the odds you’ll make at least one conversion

The lesser chance to make 2/2 conversions vs. two extra points, is on paper worth the chance to win the game vs tie

This is exactly the reasoning.

The math works but it's still fucking stupid.

It's better to take your chances in overtime than to put all your eggs in a two point conversion basket.

You give yourself way more chances by playing it straight.
