I figured it was well past time we have a thread dedicated to our growing up years. We talk about these two decades all over the board, so we might as well have a dedicated thread for it. We had a gameday chatter thread about 5 years ago (game was inconsequential) that we got off onto a 70s/80s riff and it was one of the coolest chatter threads I have ever been involved in. Here is that thread. 2020 Season | Wildcard Weekend | Gameday Chatter Thread | 1/9/2021-1/10/2021 I have it linked to about where the chatter about this era started.

So, I expect a lot of Super 70s Sports posts, and other random shit. Sit back, enjoy and let your inner nostalgist reminisce.

Mine is The Thing.

Amityville Horror was one. But mine was The Exorcist. That movie fucked me up. I could handle the blood and gore slasher movies, but anything with the devil or demon posession twisted me up.
I was the same way. Freddy and Jason and all that was cool, but the ones that fucked me up were the ones like The Exorcist and Poltergeist. The Thing got me because of that dog/wolf in that one scene when it's mouth and head turned inside out. Fucked me up.

Was I the only dork that had a CB radio in their car at some point when they were younger?

When I was a kid we lived all over east Texas. I clearly remember fishing for crawdads in the ditch in front of our house in Groesbeck, Texas. We used frozen bacon as bait and thread we stole from mom for the line. We caught a bunch of them and had no clue what to do with them after we got them. :lol

Same. The gory horror movies were mostly just stupid and not actually scary. But the Exorcist was scary shit.

Pretty sure I've told this before, but 20 years ago now I was watching that movie at my house with a girlfriend and right at the point where the girl's head twisted around, my home theater receiver that I'd had for years blew out and never worked again. I shit you not.

Yeah, we were a little freaked out. What are the odds of that happening right at that moment?

I don't remember you telling that story before. I would have never gone back into that house. Fuck all of that.

Exorcist for me also. I think it’s the only one, although the first Nightmare on Elm Street came close.

There was a place a block away from my grandmother’s, it was just a ravine where runoff creek water would somehow end up. It was full of crawdads and we’d do the same thing with bacon. We’d spend entire afternoons doing it.

Dude, that is fucking insane. Reminds me of the story of all the weird shit happening during the filming of that movie

It was crazy. Something audibly popped right then, almost like a capacitor blowing or something. And I didn't even have it turned up very loud.
