2026 Draft Week Chatter Thread...

Kind of interesting Shelton is the lighter, more athletic type... An LT type, not really RT.

I'm sure they're looking for some kind of hedge against Guyton's janky brain.

Might be considering trying Guyton out at RT in the next year or two.

I know LT is probably my top consideration in the first next year, all things being equal.

Shelton isn’t the massive, anchoring type, but he can move really well. He’s got to build an NFL frame IMO.

From what I’ve seen, and I admit to only having seen his highlight reels, he has an instinct for getting in the way without having to commit to a block, thus freeing himself to make more blocks. That is something to build on

That would be awesome, especially if they could get Smith’s penalties under control enough to kick him out to LT and then try the best remaining on the roster at LG.

How do you not love Barham? He looks like, "Fuck this media business, when do I get to crack skulls?"

I bet he'd have kicked D-Law's ass at just the sight of a Hot Boyz necklace.

Yeah me too. Nothing against CJ Allen but he would have been a big reach at 23. And honestly I think Lawrence has the potential for a way bigger impact on this defense than CJ Allen.

Allen would've been fine but I'm happier with how it turned out in terms of prioritizing the edge rush and getting a bandaid like Winters at ILB.

That's sort of how I think about CJ Allen. He would have been fine. He would have stepped into the starting LBer role in the middle and been fine. And there certainly is value to that. To sort of have that position filled for the next 4 years. But I don't think he will be the type of player that really makes game changing plays. Just sort of steady, solid play.

I think Lawrence has the potential to be a game impacting player. The only real question is, would you rather have a LBer who starts immediately as a rookie. As opposed to Lawrence who will play but might not step in immediately and be a full time starter. He is going to be in more of a rotation with Gary and EZ. But long term Lawrence is absolutely the better pick. Short term based on needs Allen made sense.

Ball was pick 138, feels like sort of an arbitrary line to draw at pick 120.

Asim and Waletzko were fifth rounders so I at least sort of understand drawing the line in the fourth round. Just because I think there is a difference in the quality of player you expect in the fourth vs the fifth round.

The Cowboys had Shelton ranked as a day two prospect so obviously they really liked him. I'm just not entirely sure why they liked him that much. But to call someone a third round prospect in my opinion that is absolutely someone you expect to become a starter in the NFL.

I think they want a guy who can play LT but then be a swing if necessary. Could be because they aren't thrilled with Guyton. Could be because Guyton has gotten hurt both years of his career up to this point. Either way I think the hope is for LT and then potential to play right as the swing backup.

Me personally, I hope Nate Thomas continues to improve because I like guys with more power. He was what a seventh round pick in his second year last season? I don't think it's crazy to hope he continues to develop. I think he made massive improvement from year one to year two. I just hope he continues that into year three. I don't think he was any worse than Steele last year, but that's not saying too much.
