Because a lot of good players are gone in those 19 picks. Like we're saying, the generic ratings might be similar but you miss choosing your best fit for need, scheme fit, etc.
Now if Reese or Bailey were at 6, okay, but they weren't...
What's the downside on Jordyn Brooks again? Seems like he had a good year statistically. Wasn't he named first team All Pro this year? Why is he available so cheaply, potentially?

No, I"m saying, we had that logic before the draft in the sense that there wasn't a huge talent different between 20 and 39.
I'm using it as evidence that Lawrence ranked at 35 on many expert boards is, this year at least, basically the same as whoever they had ranked at 23-25.

I'm not opposed to trading up but I also love the idea of getting 4 players from pick 92 through the fourth round. Like that's a lot of young talent you could add via this draft. You could go get a really solid 3-4 DE, you could get 2 LBers and you could get a WR. All between those 4 picks. That's a lot of capital to go, yeah but I just want one second round LBer.
Or we just sign Okereke or Wagner...I mean, some industry person tweeted "The Cowboys will have a green dot LB by Monday," so at least someone has some confidence that they are going to get a starter somewhere here. Not sure how you could have confidence it will come in the draft at this point since you aren't picking till 92, guys like Rodriguez and Hill will be long gone.
So there may be a trade lined up.
I agree, they evaluate these guys based on very generic scheme fit, I think Lawrence is a much better projection if you are looking for a 3-4 OLB than the concerns you might have (size and holding up against the run) if you are playing 4-3.
They should really tier out the lists, too.
And even within tiers you can have higher and lower guys.
But the bigger a tier gets (and that will correspond with the later in the draft you get), the more the rankings are mostly liquid.
Still, usually there is a sizeable gap between a player you can get at 20 or 23 and a player more like 35 on consensus rankings.
This year, I'm not sure that's the case and many of us said so in advance, that the player you get at 20 is very similar to the player you get at 39, so why not trade 12 and 20 for 6 and 39?
We need like a Barber/Canty fourth round where we land two big hits at least, if not three.

Send one of our new 4's to the Dolphins for Brooks, done and done.
Maybe throw in a 6 or something next year to get it done.
