2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

That's something Howie Roseman would do, but I think Jerry wants to make a splash with those picks. To him, that's "winning" the draft.
Unfortunately Jerry is all about making a splash and finding stars.

That works at times because stars tend to be good players, but Dallas needs depth. I’d rather have five good players instead of two ‘stars’

Seattle got one star in JSN and a crap ton of non-star, good players over two drafts. Their defense is top notch without needing star players.

I just don't see the same category of player with Bain as I do with Bailey/Styles/Downs.

If I pretend that Bain has 32 inch arms I think he is every bit the players those guys are. Naturally I watched a lot of Miami like most people. When you make a run through the college football playoffs like they did it makes for a very nationally watched team. Their defense was so fun to watch. And Bain was the best player on that defense. He was the biggest reason (Not saying only reason, Mesidor and Scott both played huge roles) their defense was so good and fun to watch. You want to talk physicality, I think Bain is the most physically imposing defensive player in this draft.

He is certainly a different style player than Bailey. But I think both were dominant forces on two of the best defenses to watch in college football. And honestly I was a Bailey fan back when experts were projecting him as a mid firsts round pick. But Bain never moved, he was at the top all season long.

It's not the arms for me. He's thick and stocky. I don't see lean edge rusher, like Ware or Haley. I see a 3-4 struggle. No wikey.

If we were staying in 4-3 that's a different story for me.

Bailey is kinda that way too but I think he's long-ish enough to make it.

James Harrison was pretty stocky.

I wouldn't put Bain fist in the dirt directly on OT's as often as I'd have him standing in space. The guy is an alpha playmaker.

Of course he's straight out of college so I wouldn't expect a lot of sacks year one (Ware had 8, and 3 in the last game for example), but he's just what we need. You won't find better in this draft outside of Bailey, Reese, or maybe Styles.

Harrison was almost too stocky and crazy strong, so a better comparison for Bain would be Brandon Graham or the older Seattle edge Michael Bennett. Almost exactly the same measurables in height weight-- right there at 275.

Bain is not the "freak" athlete, but like I said before being a freak does not translate into NFL production. Bain was productive in college to the point where that whole defense looked to him as its leader.

The only thing that reminded me of Harrison really was that compact power element of his game, Bain plays more like that but has more bend and moves like traditional EDGE rushers than Harrison who seemed to use raw strength.

You don't think of the guy as bendy but damn can he dip that shoulder and get low to beat the pass blocker. He also shows a shit ton of strength to fight through holds and make the play.

If you want a Ware clone in terms of body and athletic traits the closest thing is probably Malachi Lawrence. He is like the prototype. Obviously wasn't the college player Ware was.

Ware 6'4" 251 pounds, 4.56 forty, with 34 inch arms. 38 inch vert. 1.62 10 yard split on the 40

Lawrence 6'4" 253 pounds, 4.52 forty, with 33 1/2 inch arms. 40 inch vert. 1.59 10 yard split on the 40

So obviously if you're looking at this draft and go, Ware is the prototype for 3-4 OLBer I think that guy is Malachi Lawrence. I don't think there is another guy in the draft that sort of fits that athletic profile to a T.

Yeah, exactly. There's prolly a thousand ways to win at EDGE, and Bain checks a lot of the boxes, most importantly including production.

Where I wonder about Bain is how he takes on the true prototype elite NFL LT's. Didn't see a lot of that in his college career, but then this is true of most drafted to play EDGE.
