2024 Season | Week 2 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Saints @ Cowboys | 9/15/2024

By the way, it's interesting to note that while our front office pretends every year that the salary cap is so restrictive and the reason we can't spend too much...

New Orleans, who just knocked us into the dirt, is consistently the worst cap situation in the league and has been since about the Drew Brees days.

And yet they manage to field a team that eats our lunch.

Interesting.

It's almost like the salary cap is just an excuse for Jerry to not spend money.

Another thing. Where was Leupke instead of that fucking stiff hyphenated blocking TE?

I was never even bothered, I just chuckled and went back to smoking wings.

This joke franchise doesn’t deserve much more of a reaction than that.

Right on.

Good question.

He was supposed to be a bigger part of the gameplan yesterday and instead he was nowhere to be found.

But hey, at least we made sure to try to get the ball to Deuce, Turpin, and Brooks a total of 9 times yesterday!

Yeah. That talk was super secret code talk to fake the Saints out during the week.

Here's the truth.

We all (or most) overreacted to the win against Cleveland (whether you want to admit it or not).

We all (or most) are now overreacting to the loss against New Orleans (whether you want to admit it or not).

We've had a couple stinkers like this every single year the past few years.

In the end, nothing has changed. We'll be the same 10-12 win team we've been the past few years. And we'll lose in the playoffs, most likely in the first 2 rounds.

I've said this before, but the issue in the offseason was never that we're going to suck now. It was always that we didn't do anything really to get over the hump in the playoffs. We'll be decent but that's not good enough.

Nothing has changed.

As for why this keeps happening?

Just a guess, but maybe relying on a bevy of rookies and first year players every year isn't conducive to getting a consistent stable performance every week. Just a guess.
Yep. It's a long year, and we don't know much after one or two games. Like Parcells said, it's usually not until Thanksgiving that you really have an idea.

Only thing you said I might disagree with is this being a 10-12 win team. This might only be about a 0.500 team when it's all said and done.

Without checking, it looked to me like Luepke played plenty of snaps yesterday. I don't think he meant that Luepke would necessarily get tons of touches, but more that he'd be a Juscyck type player.

Also, anyone know Derek Carr's contract off the top of their head?

I looked it up. Pretty amazing contrast to what we're paying.

Yup....I had them pegged for 9 wins this year so I think you're right.

He had 10 plays from scrimmage.

Yeah, just saw that. Maybe when we got so far behind his packages weren't in there as much, though I don't know why the undrafted hypenated TE would play so much.

Vikings getting better QB play with a guy making 1/6 of Daks yearly salary while making throws Dak couldn’t make in his wettest dreams these days.

But we had the data that Zimmer was one of the best against the Shanahan tree. So it's not like this was some chess game mismatch, unless our players just were stuck on old concepts and were blowing assignments all day.

But I don't think that's what happened. I think it was 1) the old bugaboo of this franchise's mentality that they were already some great team and the Saints would be a cakewalk, plus 2) a terrible/ancient interior DL and a rookie corner over his head (and who got benched for Lewis in, whatever that was, the second quarter or so).

It is not only a coaching issue, but a size issue. Our best DE is 240. Our best DT is 280. We went out one got some big DTs but they look washed and Maxi still fucking sucks.

And fucking Dak can’t even hit a simple swing pass to a wide open RB that would have walked into the end zone these days. That’s what you get for 60 mil per? :lol
