While I get this thinking, teams sometimes lose to teams they shouldn't. Not just the Cowboys.
Without a doubt, but it is amplified for us as Cowboys fans because we see it every week.

Don’t get me wrong. Even the Jimmah teams laid the occasional egg.

I understand what you're both saying, but we're the ones who have been plagued by those types of losses for pretty much the entirety of the post-90s SB era so these Cowboys haven't earned that benefit of doubt.

If Kansas City, Baltimore, San Francisco, or even the hated Eagles have a bad loss or lose to a team they shouldn't, it doesn't hurt their reputation or raise questions like it does with us because they've all proven in recent years that they can achieve major success in the playoffs.

Those teams aren't going on 30 years without being able to make it out of the second round or being known as a team that always disappoints.

So IMO, in order for these current Cowboys to be given the benefit of the doubt, they have to prove that those are anomalies and not something that continues to raise doubt.

Well, obviously. Just like everything is amplified for every fan of every team.

Just like when we say Cowboys fans are some of the dumbest MFers around. Every team has some of the dumbest MFers around. We just aren't exposed to them as much.

It's funny, I see people say we lose to teams we shouldn't. I see people say we can't beat the really good teams. In the end it's amazing we can win games at all. People just dramatize this stuff. We don't lose to bad teams anymore than anyone else. And during the regular season we have shown we can beat some top teams.

The reality of all this is we have been a really good regular season team for a long time. We just haven't had the playoff success to go with it. Not Dak, not Romo, not anyone since Aikman was here. Until we win in the playoffs that tag is probably the one we actually deserve.

If I had to guess we're definitely in the top 10 in the league in regular season wins over the last 10 years.

In terms of the playoffs, there's always going to be randomness in a single elimination tournament, especially in a sport like football that is often a game of attrition in terms of injuries, and often comes down to a few turnovers or penalties here and there.

The fact that we had a HC who was completely unqualified to hold that position for as long as he did is an outlier and more or less invalidates what happened during that time period, relative to "expectations" or "reputation" or whatever.

So in terms of the team we have right now I'm really just looking at the outcomes of the last 2-3 years when gauging what this team is capable of.

I'm not going to derail the thread, but some of you mofos can't remember the last 28 years.

Nothing prior to about 2014 or so means a single shred of anything as far as this team is concerned, it's just fodder for fans and media to discuss. And I say 2014 or so only because of guys like Lawrence, Martin and Dak, but for the majority of the roster anything before 2020 is irrelevant beyond it being outside noise like most other narratives.

As far as Cooks goes, as long as he's at least 90% or so I'd probably make him active in case the game is close and we really need him. I'd just rotate him heavily and obviously sit him if we get up by a decent margin.

I don't believe that's true at all.

Ours is a very unique case because it's such a long stretch of disappointments and failure to advance past a certain stage.

And with each year that the streak continues, our players keep getting asked about it and they keep having to read about it and hear about it, etc.

All of those doubts and questions create more pressure for the players come playoff time because they're going to be inevitably asked about it. And that type of stuff can and does affect guys.

So while there may not be a direct correlation between the Romo era failures with this team, this current group will also be questioned so long as they too continue to lose in the divisional round and those questions eventually start to have their effect.

Sure but that's also relatively minor in the grand scheme of things, and certainly not worth freaking out over if we have some random poor performance here and there throughout the season.

The fact of the matter is there's a lot of scar tissue for all serious Cowboys fans and any negativity tends to snowball, usually unnecessarily.

Speaking only for myself, but the last 28 years has nothing to do with now. Hell, how many guys were on this team even 5 years ago? A very small handful, at best. So this so-called culture of choking, losing, underachieving, or whatever you want to call it is only something the fans cling to. The players we have now have nothing to do with it.

Now, you can say Jerry is the common denominator in that. But I disagree. He is involved with building the team. And I think we can all agree, we have a very talented team. Once they take the field, he no longer has anything to do with it.

It is Thursday and they are still mourning.

Yesterday I was reminded that this clown is their OC.

Aaron Rodgers is responsible for the only real success Hackett's seen throughout his entire coaching career. Without Rodgers his career has been very unremarkable. He's not a 'turn water into wine' type of coach like Kyle Shanahan.

Nathaniel Hackett + Zach Wilson will probably equate to a bottom 10 offense.

Bet the over. Cowboys by 12 on Sunday.

But, it's the bar we should hold, right? Or has it been so long that we have forgotten what our standards used to be?
Look......just speaking for myself. I'm just hoping to finally break through into the championship game round. A Super Bowl appearance/ring would be icing on the cake.

So yeah, the standards have fallen, IMO.

I actually expect a tough game. Their defense is really impressive. Quinnen Williams on Edoga doesn't look like a fun time, and Gardner can take people away. (I might put Tolbert on his side all day and basically not throw to him.)

Plus Wilson is excellent at WR, and Zach Wilson is talented enough to hit some big throws if things break right for him. I'm not sold on our run defense yet, especially when the other team runs it enough and Mazi has to play significant snaps. Hall is impressive.

We should win, being the better team and with their having to travel on a short week, but I predict it will be closer than people think.

:lol

Two things are a certainty with Simp:

1. He's always confident in the Cowboys

2. He always downplays our divisional rivals' potential
Point 2 is definitely true. :lol

Last year for example, despite it being clear as day to any unbiased person, he refused to acknowledge that the Eagles did a great job building their team.

You're my boy, Simp, but you do have that blind spot.

Doesn't seem severe. So I expect Zack Martin will play.

This is our year, right?
