Apparently the neighborhood sits above and/or near gas and oil wells, abandoned mines, and some sort of pipeline. There appears to be several potential culprits. But they don't think they'll have a cause pinned down for a while.

The same borough also had two other random explosions in the past 15 years. One in 2022 still hasn't had a cause identified, a previous one from 2008 apparently was a gas line leak.

Could be an improperly installed gas line. One of the problems with Gas stoves is you get people that aren’t properly trained installing them and this can happen.
