I was pretty close. I thought that the prorated bonus got split evenly over those two years on post June 1st cuts. That site doesn't seem to be doing that. I just did the math myself obviously.
I'm a slacker, I let overthecap.com or spotrac.com do the math for me.

Well, shit don't get upset, just having a discussion. Ultimately it doesn't matter to me if we trade him or cut him, I wouldn't have Romo on my roster next year. Simply because we have a young, elite QB making pennies.
I would take Romo on the roster next year, in the role of a backup and mentor/player coach to Dak.

On the roster next year you have the two best QBs in the NFL. If you cut him (or he retires) after 2017 you get $16.3M in cap space ($19.5M if you make him a post June 1 cut). Then give him a position as QBs assistant and you can pay him all the money he left on the table from retiring without impacting the cap.
