What razor do you guys use?

Assuming you aren't Grizzly Adams, I assume you shave somewhere on your face or neck. (I don't need to hear about your pubes, booze.) What razor do you use?

For years now I've used Target's house brand blades that fit a Mach 3 handle, but it looks like they're discontinuing them. And name brand stuff is so stupid expensive. Just curious what you guys use.
 
I bought a nice shaving kit about ten years ago at the shaving store in the Mall of America. A nice weighted safety razor along with the badger hair brush and mug for the shaving cream. I order the 100 count Gillette Wilkinson blades off Amazon for about 6.50 a box. Change out blades about once every week or so. Takes a little bit longer to shave, but worth it imo.

I used to use the disposables, but the blades seemed to be so hit or miss. Sometimes you got a good sharp one that lasted, then the next one was complete shit after the first shave or two.

I thought about a safety razor ten years or so ago when that became kind of popular again (because I'm a cheap ass) but never got around to it. Is it harder to do, or is that not even a thing once you get used to it? Do you cut yourself more?

I was never able to use disposables, though. I had a really heavy, fast-growing beard and I guess sensitive skin, because I would get razor burn easily -- bad combination that made me try what felt like every combination of shaving cream and razor on the market. Now that I'm older that's not such a problem anymore though.

To me that's getting to be too many, but I have used those and they're okay. Honestly if I have to switch I might just use the Wally World one. I tried those years ago and it was fine, but it did seem like the blades were more inconsistent and sometimes I'd get a bad one.

Oh, and for the record, like @NoDak said, if anyone hasn't tried an old-fashioned brush and shaving soap puck yet, you have to. Tons better than anything from a can, and cheaper. Not often you find that combo.

They are more inconsistent and if I get a bad one I'll turn it over quickly. But I'll use the shit out of a good one.

But anything less than 5 blades and it feels like torture and I'm tearing up my face.

I will sometimes have a beard but I kind of vacillate between a short beard and clean shaven. I should just keep my beard trimmed consistently but I get lazy pretty often and skip shaving more than I should.

I really hate shaving.
 
@Chocolate Lab , Yeah you’ll probably nick yourself a couple times at first until you get used to it. Getting the angle right is weird at first. And go SLOW. You can’t go as fast as you can with a disposable. Especially under your nose and over your Adam’s apple. But once you figure it out, it gives a really close shave that feels good. If you’re gonna take the plunge, buy a nice one. Money well spent, and the weight of it will help you get the shave right.
 
Years ago I switched to a straight razor. Takes too much time but I still prefer shave soap and a brush. Used to use Gillette razors but got too expensive so I switched to dollar shave club’s 4 blade. I can’t use more than 4 without tearing my face up. Stupid sensitive skin.

As part of my insomnia browsing last night :mad I looked up some stuff on it and I may just get the Van Der Hagen at Wally World. Most reviews say it's actually pretty decent and good for beginners switching from cartridge razors. I hope I'm not throwing away $20 for it, because I'm not good at going slow -- I usually rush too much even with cartridge razors. But I guess if I know I'd cut myself otherwise, I'll make myself slow down.

Still have a few months of my current blades left, so no rush, but I'll probably give it a try.
