Wilcox sounds like my folk.

Just because he sounds funny don't mean he don't think good.

Inside Skinny: Nate Newton's take on the interior O-line

July, 26, 2013

By Tim MacMahon | ESPNDallas.com

Six-time Pro Bowl guard and three-time Super Bowl champion Nate Newton, now of ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM, will weigh in occasionally with his take on the Cowboys' interior offensive line. His thoughts after watching Friday's practice:

"Travis Frederick stayed on his feet in traffic pretty good today, but what bothers me is his hand placement in passing situations. He needs to be able to get his hands up in a guy’s chest by aiming at his facemask and it’ll automatically fall into his chest, because he’s a big enough guy that they shouldn’t be able to sink and push him back in passing situations, whether it’s individual pass rush or team situations. I noticed when he missed with his hand placement, they get into him and push him back. He needs to toughen up on that.

"In the run game, he looked OK today. He got to the second level pretty good. He moved well, but we didn’t have a lot of run situations where it was congested going into the middle.

"Nate Livings was very, very rusty. Feet were slow, hands were slow, getting knocked back. During pass-rush drills and game situations against the defense, he didn’t look good at all. But that’s to be expected after four months of missing everything – OTAs, minicamp, everything that matters.

"David Arkin looked great today. Good hand placement. Him and Doug Free worked well, very well today, especially against the pass-rush situations. He looked good today. He looked solid."

I'll need to review the film to get an accurate opinion.

You ever notice other team's QBs all have different practice "no hit" jerseys (red or whatever)...but Romo doesn't?

YOU think YOU know more than Nate Newton? Hunh? Hunh? Hunh?
The article was decent until the last paragraph. arkin was great? If the guy who ain't done shit was great, that would have been the headline. A throwaway compliment don't count for nothing.

Play of the Day: Matt Johnson shows up

July, 26, 2013

By Tim MacMahon | ESPNDallas.com

OXNARD, Calif. – Secondary coach Jerome Henderson described safety Matt Johnson’s first practices of training camp as “solid.”

It didn’t sound like a compliment.

“I think he’s got to show up more,” Henderson said Friday morning. “I think he’s working hard to do that.”

Hours later, Johnson came up with the kind of play the Cowboys envisioned from him when they used a 2012 fourth-round pick to draft him out of Eastern Washington, where he had 17 career interceptions. Johnson dropped back in a two-deep zone and made a leaping pick of Tony Romo’s underthrown deep ball intended for Dez Bryant.

Then Johnson, who didn’t play a down as a rookie due to hamstring and back injuries, hurt himself while sprinting down the sideline on the return.

“I just jammed my knee,” said Johnson, who returned to practice after getting checked out by the athletic training staff. “I’m fine.”

Nate Livings practices for the first time; Mackenzy Bernadeau expected back next week

Cowboys left guard Nate Livings was eased back into practice Friday after sitting out the first week with a "boo-boo" on his foot. The cut has healed, and Livings is happy to be back.

"They were being cautious," Livings said after practice. "Football is football. I’ve been playing this game for awhile. It hurts not to be out there to see my teammates going to war, and I’m not there. It’s just good to be back."

The Cowboys have been without their two starting guards from last season. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau (hamstring) is expected to participate for the first time next week.

The Cowboys expected starting five of Tyron Smith, Livings, Travis Frederick, Bernadeau and Doug Free have yet to practice together.

"I don’t know who our starting five is going to be yet," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "That’s a very competitive situation, and that’s what we want. But what we do want is everybody out there competing. That’s very important that they get out there on the field. I think they know it. No one ever wants to use anything as an excuse, but obviously we were pretty injured from start to finish last year in a lot of areas, but in that area as well. I think the sooner we can get our guys out there, the sooner we can get them competing, the sooner we can get them under Bill Callahan, who is one of the best in the business, and we’ll be a better offensive line. For us to accomplish what we need to accomplish and get to where we want to get to, we have to improve in the offensive line. We have to run the ball better. We have to protect Tony better and it all starts up front."

If he's so great, why do they keep saying this, over and over again, like they are trying to will it to be true?

Just showed Saints camp in NFLN and the Saints DBs were doing the stupid pushup shit we used to do when they dropped an INT. Good luck with that, fellas.

Yeah I liked his analysis on Fredrick. Seemed pretty legit and credible. Someone isn't trying to fool us by throwing in the last part are they?
