Spencer says bone bruise is a concern for him, but that there's time for him to get ready for the season



Defensive end Anthony Spencer said the bone bruise that is keeping him out of practice happened during the conditioning test, is the same kind of thing that sidelined him in the OTAs, and that it’s a concern.

“It’s concerning to me. It’s bothering me right now,” he said. “I really don’t know what else to do, so I’m just taking it day by day.”

Spencer missed time in the offseason because of a hyperextended knee. He said he doesn’t have much choice right now except to rest this most recent injury, which he described as “a contusion-type thing on my tibia/fibula area.”

He said it's on the same leg, that it hurts when he runs on it, and that he felt it during the conditioning test.

“We’re pretty much playing it by ear. We’ll see how it feels tomorrow,” he said.

Coach Jason Garrett said the Cowboys don’t think it’s a severe injury.

Spencer said he’s not worried about falling behind, and that he’s got plenty of time to get ready for the regular season.

“The defense, it’s not too complicated. It’s straightforward. It’s all the stuff we’ve put in during OTAs, mini-camps, so I know the plays. I know what’s going on,” he said. “Just doing it and repping it is the biggest thing I’m worried about right now.”

I did consider that, but I'm going to take a half glass full approach until I see suckage against 1's & 2's.

I do think its inevitable that they end up signing a cheap vet to a one year deal. We'll probably have to wait until August for that to happen because I'm sure they'll want to see if they can make up for the losses internally before exploring external options.

I wonder if this an injury or something else. They have already done their stretching.

Receivers, RBs and CBs have to do more running and cutting than the other positions so hopefully it's precautionary.
