She had a lot of great ones. She was one of my favorites when I was a kid.

Saw her perform with Turners band at San Antonio. I think it was 1960 and she wasn’t even billed in Ike’s band yet. It was a dance joint and I was in the military at the time. It was a pretty good sized dance joint but part of the place had dirt floors. To say the joint was jumping would be an understatement but it was quite a show. The reason I remember it so well is some of my black military buddies gave me a send off since I was shipping out to another base. That’s the way things were done at that time. It was not a good idea to venture over into someone’s turf without their consent.and company.
