When you see someone is a train wreck, let them wreck.
That's very wise.

Say that reminds me, since it is Pride Month coming up and all, there is a corporate initiative to address with a "playbook" (which amazingly, someone got paid to do) that is expected to be executed. Set up Pride celebrations all over the DC, etc, put it up on TikTok and Workplace, plan a Pride-themed cookout! Have a rainbow day where everyone dresses in bright colors and shows their pride!
We do not have Polynesians laying around, so no.That's absurd. Did you do all that for pacific islander month?
You are going to fucking pay for this.
No, seriously. I do have Something watching out for me in that regard. People are always about their character and the key is to let it roll.Glenlivet?
Welcome back, brother.I've been a union member twice and don't gravitate towards them. One was completely pointless, a retail textile union in the late 80s/early 90s that was there when I was hired. I paid paltry dues but otherwise didn't know it existed.
The other was several years later, a factory that unionized while I was there. I was a dissenting voice but in the minority. It was a joke because the union was in bed with the ownership. However, that place didn't offer vacation time, raises based on anything, no benefits at all and were complete slave drivers in awful conditions.
It wasn't long after the government started setting work discrimination rules though and afterward, private unions became less of a thing except for ones like The Teamsters, AFL-CIO, UAW, etc.
Not long before I was hired, there was a strike at a location in KC. One person was fired where I'm at just for mentioning a local warehouser branch of the teamsters afterward that was overheard by the front office. Just for saying the words.
This seriously made me lol.You are going to fucking pay for this.
Officially, he pointed out. He actually had enough attendance points to be fired long before but they kept him around because he was a good worker that knew his stuff. Everyone that worked there knew the truth though. Not sure when that was but now he could sue for a lot of money. That is completely illegal.
Welcome back, brother.
So last week, we had a HR Summit where me and the rest of the PPs at each of the Southeast buildings got together in Ft. Lauderdale.
I had never been there, so I was looking forward to that. However, this also meant spending time around twelve other people that for the most part, I have found distasteful on Zoom calls for the past nine or so months. I was not anticipating spending time with the majority of these people. From six AM yoga to eleven o'clock drinks, urgh.
The real one thing that stuck out to me was that they arranged for a guest speaker on the final day before we were all going to split to get on a plane back home or drive, which is what I did.
The speaker was a person named Sarah Collins Rudolph. If you are unaware of who she is, this gives a little bit of backstory.
Well, as soon as the night before, it was just like a damn Curb Your Enthusiasm episode.
We are all in the lobby waiting for our shuttle and then elderly female (Miss Rudolph) and this guy decked out in Vietnam Vet gear who acted just like Leon Black walk in. My disgusting interim boss makes a big deal over them. They were arriving after been picked up at the airport, she invites then to dinner but Leon declines, as he is carrying a pizza.
Back to her presentation. Well, first off, Leon got up and told his version of what her story is. And then he basically commandeered the discussion into several topics, including racism, God, and he even slipped in a few Trump comments. But what really got me was that he repeatedly dug into the topic of reparations. Ms. Rudolph herself, yeah, I think some damn body should have paid for her medical bills. But this went way off on a tangent.
Leon spoke for about forty minutes, which kind of pissed me off, since as soon as his ass was done, I could hit the road and beat rush hour traffic around Savannah.
Lookit, I can appreciate what Ms. Rudolph went through, but what unfolded next was crazy. We got about 10 minutes of Q&A where the group was allowed to address Ms. Rudolph with specific questions. It was a bit sad since Leon did most of the talking.
Then it turned into Leon selling the book "The 5th Girl" for $30 dollars a piece, $50 if you want it autographed with a personalized message (I found out later Amazon sells the book for $29.95).
Wait a second, it had never occurred to me, but this was never announced. Leon is now here and with are with this shitshow trap.
Then Leon goes, ease up y'all, I don't take anything but cash app or cash, then my fatty interim boss goes, for those of you without cash, there is an ATM downstairs! Everyone disperses, some to the bath room.
Fuck. Now I felt instantly boxed in. I never carry cash, only about twenty bucks or so just in case but that's it. I am not taking out that and spending $4.50 on top of it all. So I am watching the guy and he goes, darn it, I just can't get this to work.I ain't buying the book, especially now I have to go out of my way and pay a fee at the shitty hotel ATM because this fucking guy doesn't take a normal method of payment. I felt his operation was poorly run and I elected in my mind at that point not to contribute.
But then the instant peer pressure. First of all, it was the females, led by fatty interim. I ducked out for a smoke and when I came back her and the only African American female were walking past me and they were like, did you find the ATM? I was like goddammit, what is this? A test? I was like fuck it, I am really trapped. Then I go to the machine, where another one of my other fellow scam victims (an African American male who is more white than I am but that is another story) is freaking out because the ATM only gives out money in $50 increments. Fuck that shit.
It was like divine prophecy. I had an out. But then the AA female goes, I can loan you the money, don't worry about it. Fucked again. So thankfully they leave to hit the elevator to go back to the ballroom. I just sit there and fumble about for a second. I could use Erkel's excuse and I started to wonder how it would fly. All in all, I got a lipsmack and a stare from a couple of them when I came back empty handed.
Today, I got an email from the divisional secretary on how Leon's shitshow was going to be paid for. This person got $3000 from each DC to appear. Multiply that by 12.
This means that since I have no GM that approved this crap, I have to justify it on the P&L on Monday when I go back to work.
Leon got $36,000 from my big dumb employer for about an hour's work (plus lodging) so they are apparently great con artists. That's insane. They sound like con artists.
I already apologized for that.and an employee sleeping with a married member’s wife
I've heard of crap like that happening. Someone I know went through essentially the same thing including buying a book, in that case by the main guest speaker. He said in the end it felt like the whole thing was about boosting book sales. So last week, we had a HR Summit where me and the rest of the PPs at each of the Southeast buildings got together in Ft. We should have got the book for free. Leon got 36 grand for that.I've heard of crap like that happening.
