Then what's the difference here? Honest question. If countries that don't ban guns have lower amounts of shootings, then why is it so high here when we enjoy the same freedoms?
Dude, it is simple. We are not a sane nation. Not in any way, shape or form.

This is exactly right. Now the hard question, why?

From what has been demonstrated in Scandinavian countries, even high gun ownership rates do not mean more shootings. Simple fact is, a lot of people in this country feel that following laws or even simple rules is an “infringement on their rights”. I will take my chances with some crazed asshole with a pistol over some unhinged person with an AR. And 10 lives saved is better than senselessly lost so I can pretend to be “free”.
So what are you saying means more shootings if not high gun ownership?

And not to be insensitive to the ten lives, but trading freedom for safety is a bad idea in general. Like, we could ban cars and no one would die in car accidents anymore either. The point is you will have to convince me of more lives saved than ten out of 350 million+ before I start passing laws to take away constitutional rights.

Foreign aid annually is roughly $50 billion.

Why don’t we put a 5 year freeze on foreign aid and start turning our schools into places where politicians could walk around without their armed security safely?
Harder for Joe Biden’s crackhead son to skim off money from domestic spending.

The sick burn comment I made wasn’t even in response to anything Irv said, it was actually about something booze had said and NoDak responded to.

My guess would be that they take mental illness a fuck of a lot more serious than we do.

They treat it. We put it on parade or outright ignore it.
I can agree with you here.

But I am going to be brutally honest with you.

All of this push about mental health this, mental health that, but that is about as sad of a take as can be made right now.

We are not equipped as a country to address mental health on a grand scale.

There are not enough qualified individuals to fill those roles, nor can I assume they will be attractive jobs that compensate at the level that it deserves.

I guess we could take the prisons that are no longer profitable and convert them to asylums if circumstances were just right.

As we are seeing with the trans issue, mental health is a big problem in this country.
