They make money off the stories, so... they'll keep coming.

Not least of all, also, they want to use the murders to push their agendas of stealing people's rights away from them. Even though the difference in deaths, essentially, would be statistically insignificant.

Yes, "if one life is saved it's worth it" and all that but we are talking about like 100 lives a year in a nation of 350 million. No other laws in history get passed over such slim margins. Not seat belt laws, bike helmet laws, environmental or pollution regulation, nothing.

*Note, I'm not saying there's 100 gun deaths in the country every year, I'm saying banning the AR to stop these mall and school shootings would save, maybe, that many lives, given that most of these sickos will just use knives or cars or do something else crazy, and that handguns, which will never be illegal, will continue to account for the vast, vast, vast majority of gun deaths.
From what has been demonstrated in Scandinavian countries, even high gun ownership rates do not mean more shootings. Simple fact is, a lot of people in this country feel that following laws or even simple rules is an “infringement on their rights”. I will take my chances with some crazed asshole with a pistol over some unhinged person with an AR. And 10 lives saved is better than senselessly lost so I can pretend to be “free”.

People used to have the right to drive a motorcycle without a helmet. Now they don't.
I know you’re on a roll here, and I hate to harsh your vibe, but I ride in 4 different states. ND, MT, SD, and WY. The only helmet laws here are you must wear one 16yrs old and younger.

Sorry.

GUN TURN IN DAY AT PARTICIPATING HOME DEPOTS:

Drop off you functioning firearm(s) and receive a complimentary black and decker flashlight so you can at least see the intruder that is about to kill you and your family!

I would think it starts with a turn in program first (ridiculous to some, but works to a certain degree) followed by a coordinated effort with local, state and federal (if needed) law enforcement to collect what's left. If they are truly serious about this kind of reform, then the government will take it seriously to remove them. You'll have some yahoos who threaten anyone who comes on their property (Cotton) and they would eventually be overpowered by force if needed. My guess after a handful of those situations ending poorly for the gun owner, most people will be compliant.
Good lord.

So the fact that we let this situation escalate to the point it has is the reason to not do anything about it? Makes sense.
My god, dude, Smitty has already given some good steps to help without taking guns from people. Make the security at schools tighter. Have armed guards and all of that. The Republicans (Ted Cruz in fact) proposed a bill to spend money on doing such, and guess how that vote went.

What good step? Make schools safer? That's great. Who's going to fund the billions upon billions of dollars to do that? It's not just the left that won't find a way.

Then what's the difference here? Honest question. If countries that don't ban guns have lower amounts of shootings, then why is it so high here when we enjoy the same freedoms?

How about we don't get fucking BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of dollars to a country at war? That would be a great place to start.

My guess would be that they take mental illness a fuck of a lot more serious than we do.

They treat it. We put it on parade or outright ignore it.
Yep. And they have federal law enforcement that isn't corrupt as shit.

The last “fully protected schools” estimate I saw was less than $25billion.

How is that not a more popular than hoping crazy people decide to stay home because it’s slightly harder to get a gun?

Could have done it a few times over instead of bailing out Ukraine.

We print money for everything else. Our kids aren’t important enough to go in more debt?

I can't believe the idiot just said banning guns doesn't hurt anyone. :lol

Someone has literally no idea about the facts.

It's like arguing with a fucking child.

Or cut back a smidge on the 1.2 trillion dollar "infrastructure" bill.
Oh, I just had a novel idea. How about we make people pay back their damn student loans? That might help. Or maybe 87000 less IRS agents.
