What a moron she is. Points out she used to weigh almost three bills and now is way below that. How can that be if she was born that way?

I really really hate insurance companies. It's legal theft.

I'm on the fence on this one. It sounds like what the insurance company denied is specifically this robot arm. She's apparently had prosthetic arms in the past and presumably insurance would cover that again, just not the robot arm upgrade.

Obviously the robot arm is better but whether that specifically is "necessary" as opposed to the standard arm is debatable.

The good news is that, reading through that thread it sounds like she's going to get a robot arm through crowdfunding.

All that said, I agree, I hate insurance companies generally.

Not many people know the history of the insurance industry... In the late 1940s and early 50s when the insurance industry was first getting started, people had a hard time understanding what the benefit was of handing over money each month in the event that they might get sick, so when people did get sick the insurance companies would rubber stamp any and all claims without question. After a while, the medical establishment took notice of this and began increasing the amount that they charged for medical procedures and supplies. Which is why aspirin that originally cost three cents a pill now cost $3 a pill. Now the insurance industry is trying to put the genie back in the bottle, and it is more or less an impossible task.

A lightweight wheelchair that contains less material than a children's bicycle cost over $10,000. Any honest doctor will tell you that what they charge a patient directly is two or three times less than what they charge an insurance company.
