She certainly deserved to do time but this was manslaughter all the way. Did she know him? No. Did she have a grudge against him? Not that I know of. Did she enter the apartment intending to kill him? Why would she? He was a stranger. Like OJ's acquittal, her conviction was race riot insurance.

Yeah, I don’t understand how they can bring a murder charge on this trial. I would think the Judge is compelled to give the jury instructions about verdicts especially murder charges. Based on what I know about the circumstances there is no basis to think that a premeditated circumstance was in play or existed. It seems pretty messed up to me. There are a lot of unanswered questions about the shooting but it just my come to an overturned verdict and a new trial.
