I’m gonna need more info, but if this is truly the result of Donald Trump’s Department of Education then fuck him and fuck every fucking body in DC. This shit infuriates me. I’m at a bit of a loss right now. They fund the “regular” Olympics and cut this?? Like I said, fuck every fucking one of those fucks.

But, he should only be made to pay a fine if he was convicted or if they reached a plea deal, right? They dismissed the charges and still enacted a punishment. How does that even make sense?

Nah, counties have non trial disposition programs for non serious non violent first time offenders; where charges are dropped if you do some minor punishment. That stuff is usually within the discretion of the DA.

Counties can set up whatever programs they want; it's usually for first time offenders.

My point is, setting up programs for non-trial dispositions where punishment occurs but then the case is dismissed without conviction is both common and at the discretion of the DA.

This, though, I think seems like abuse of discretion.

Also, charges can probably be brought again even if they are dismissed, as long as it's within the statute of limitations. I'm not sure if the non-trial disposition punishment (fines and community service) would bar bringing the charges again, but I'd guess there is a loophole.

Problem is, you can't threaten the DA to bring the charges back or fire her. She's elected. Can't be fired. Only voted out.
