Yes, those. Which is what 99% of people wear.

What's the damn point? It's almost like they are just happy to force us to wear masks regardless of whether it is effective or not.
its now doubt become a character issue for some people, just goes to show we're always a few steps away from a proverbial Salem witch trial

I hear you Yim, I know he's done a lot of good in Africa especially, and that's great.

But here's my question, why would it be 2022 before things are normal? The vaccines are here and will be delivered to the most vulnerable probably in the next few months. Many more people will be infected and have natural antibodies by then.

These people almost act like it must be 100% eradicated and nothing short of that matters. One person or article I saw was saying, well, the vaccines are only 95% effective so you still have to wear a mask because you could still pass it on.

So .05 * the already small hospitalization rate isn't enough for people to live their lives? Why not?

What I gathered from his interview and other things I've read (not just from Gates) is that it will probably be late summer before most people can be potentially vaccinated just in the US. Bear with me as I'm spitballing here but things tend to take longer than expected, unexpected consequences will arise and these factors, as well as others could easily kick things into early 2022 before everyone willing, can take the vaccine (this doesnt account for the rest of world and how we manage travel to and from countries with less or no vaccinations).

(I tend to be conservative so hopefully I'm overstating how long it will take)

Plus some people are probably still going to remain fearful to get out, etc so it wouldn't surprise me if it goes into 2023 & beyond before we can say we're back to the place we were before covid started. Hell, we'll likely never get back to that place as this has changed mindsets and actions across the country and world permanently in some aspects. I think we're looking at a new normal and some folks will probably choose to keep wearing masks (Out of fear and/or virtue signaling) long after covid has come and gone. To me, Covid & the way its been handled is a massive, world wide event that will cause changes which will never be reversed, hopefully most are for the better but some will be worse and only time will tell where this ultimately takes us.

As I observe the arc of history, its long but the trajectory is consistently upward. So while there are dips along the way where folks have had to endure horrible events like the plague, WW1 & WW2, etc, etc, the quality of life keeps getting better & better across the planet and I hope that continues but we may be experiencing one of those downward dips that we have to endure before we come out better on the other side.

If things largely stay the same, I'll die a happy man because like CK Louis said, everything is amazing but no one is happy:

I think you guys (and smiths post from the CDC) make a good case for telling everyone 49 and under that they can do whatever the fuck want, just steer clear (or mitigate heavily with masks and safe distance) of friends and family 49+ you don't want to infect.

I think the answer to "why not?" is fear, peer pressure and too much government which always seems more motivated by avoiding pain (of being wrong, failure, mistakes, etc) than being creative and taking chances to find new ways of doing things or solving problems

That's how it should have been all along. (Or whatever age/comorbidity cutoff you choose.)

That's fine, but my original question was why Gates said it would be up to 18 months even with all that. He didn't explain it in the interview except to imply that all CV-19 must be completely gone worldwide first. Which is absurd.

Wait, so students are in the classroom and teachers are not, and they need these "assistants" to be in the classroom for the students, but the teachers are the only ones not coming to the actual school? Am I reading this right?

How can supposedly intelligent people get this deluded over something that isn’t any more of a threat as an influenza virus. It has to be the euphoria of having a smidge of power and authority. This trend along with the ushering of extremism into government seats has arrived even sooner than I anticipated. I thought it would be another generation before these factors took feet. It’s pretty scary as to what could evolve from this recent round of deception. Even the most liberal could not have expected these results.
