Harry Potter got better as the series went on, but I still don't think it really deserves to be the best selling series of all time or whatever it was. I read them once I could read them for free.

So did Booze ever read "Doctor Sleep"? It was OK, but nothing like The Shining. King's early stuff is like a completely different author than his later stuff.

I've read a couple of books from King's kid (Joe Hill). Heart Shaped Box and Horns were different and fairly entertaining. NOS4A2 felt like a cheap Stephen King novel.

Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy is a must read for any Fantasy reader. I don't think I have ever seen anyone deconstruct and twist an archetype like this series. I will never view Gandolph in a Tolkien'ien light again. The man flat out destroyed the image Tolkien created and twisted it, but you dont even realize it happened.

I guess I am not making sense, but he basically take the Tolkien quest, fills it with fantasy archetypes borrowed from others, gives it some GRRM grit, and lulls you into thinking he is just using the archetypes rather than twisting them.

The first book is the weakest, but it is well worth the read. Book three's destruction of Gandolph was a literary masterpiece. An acomplishment I don't think I have ever sever seen before.
Just finished this series. It was good. Somewhat depressing ending, but probably a much more realistic ending.

I loved the characters. So much different than the typical fantasy fare.

I'm currently 4 deep into Fleming's Bond collection. So far, I'd say only Casino Royale was a better movie with the modern tweeks they gave it than the others. The rest were made into campy 70's films but the plot of the books is so much better.

I was rooting for the cripple so at least he got the hot girl. As for the hot girl, sad she got stuck with cripple but she at least made the best out of it.

I loved the fake out with the king. Put people in the right circumstances and even a douche bag can act right, but they are still a douche.

And I am no convinced that Gandolf should have been a villian after they way abercrombie wrote him.

What is the feeling about Anne Rice?

I liked the Lestat stuff but the Mayfair saga was my favorite,I think that it would be a great series for HBO.

I also think somebody needs to redo Interview, Cruise and Pit ruined that movie they were all wrong for the parts.

I never read the book cause I heard it was dreadfully slow, but Interview was a great movie IMO. I loved those two.

i don't read vampire books, i am not a teenage girl. I read high fantasy books, like a proper nerd.

I have a buddy who swears by the interview series and two or three others.

I read Interview, it was pretty good. Couldn't get into Lestat so I didn't continue the series.

If you liked the Movie you should like the book it was pretty faithful.

The movie overall was good buy they did not capture the main characters very well IMO, Lestat is a force of nature in books.

I liked the interview series because it does a lot of intertwining with real history and its nothing like these new wave vampires.

Yeah, Dr. Sleep was a bit of a let down. Okay, but not really an effective followup to The Shining.

I am a big fan of Joe Hill's. It's a shame he'll never be able to write a story without all the critiques referencing his dad in some way.

Heart Shaped Box I thought was outstanding, and his short story collection, 20th Century Ghosts, is excellent. NOS4A2 was a little convoluted, but had some chilling moments. I'll be picking up Wraith when the trade paperback is released, as the story did feel like it would make a good comic. I still need to read Horns.

Horns might have been my favorite. I have not ready 20th Century Ghosts yet

I had high hopes for NOS4A2, but It really did feel like a cheap Stephen King ripoff and I'd feel that way even if it wasn't his kid. I think I had really high hopes after the other two I read

Horns is being made into a movie with Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) starring btw

The Potter books were appropriate for her intended audience and they progressed in drama at a similar pace to what her readers might have aged. I've always been a Tom Clancy, Dale Brown action military intrigue reader. Recently when not studying for the promotional exam I've read all the Brad Thor books which center around his ex Navy Seal/Secret Service character Scot Harvath. Thor recently announced that he sold the rights to make movies for the character as well. Oh year, I also started the Jack Reacher series of books.

Starting book 9 in The Wheel of Time.

Haven't really noticed a dip in quality. Maybe some get the hell on with it moments, but still great. I hear book 10 is supposedly the worst one. We'll see.

I have heard that Jordon really seems to go off base with those books, expanding story lines, storylines that don't end, character that take books to meat up again.

I have a feeling I will be hooked book one, but some of the complaints against the series make me doubtful I want to make that kind of commitment.

He's constructed a huge world with a lot of different factions fighting for their own interests or beliefs and for or against the one guy that can save them while simultaneously ignoring the true threat. It can be hard to keep up with when a character pops back up you haven't seen in a while unless they were memorable.

It definitely gets complicated. Not for the feint of heart.
